MILWAUKEE — A United States Postal Service worker was attacked while delivering mail in a Milwaukee neighborhood. It happened earlier this month, May 5 near 77th and Hampton.
During a Saturday afternoon of grilling out in the backyard, Dave Wetzel witnessed what appeared to be a harmless interaction between a man and the female postal worker who was delivering mail in the neighborhood.
“Looked as though he was handing her some mail that went to the wrong address or something and then she ran around and got into her van and took off. We didn’t think nothing of it,” Wetzel said.
well said………
my guess it was the Postmaster! low IQ and lust do not mix well.
Moscow, Russia mailmen pack heat! Big City USA should too!
People always have stupid jokes about “going postal”, but few except postal worker families ever realize how dangerous it can be for city and rural carriers out on the streets.
There have been murders, fatality accidents, sexual attacks, robberies, serious injuries from wrecks with decrepit and ultra dangerous LLV’s, and injuries with falling, tripping over unseen obstacles in yards, and endless heavy lifting.
My former office had what we called the Hernia Club, as many of us suffered them from all the heavy lifting and twisting. Some had two, as I did.
Knees, shoulders, backs – they are all casualties of carrying mail. Obviously the vast majority of blue collar jobs in the world take their similar tolls, and I do not complain about what is just an unavoidable part of the working life.
Crimes however are a different matter. Thousands of carriers nationwide have to enter in some of the worst crime infested neighborhoods that exist every day and put themselves at the risk of gangs, drug addicts (meth use in my state is epidemic and those users are wildly unpredictable and violent), and other scum of the earth.
While I certainly do not want to diminish the contributions of veterans, the fact is that postal employees too have faced very dangerous situations, not just with criminals, but with every kind of horrible weather that exists. They risk frostbite and hypothermia in winter, severe weather especially in spring and fall, and in many places in the country scorching heat.
All to get that mail to you, the customer. I wish there was more respect for letter carriers, past and present, because we damn well earned it.
