“The consistent position of the Postal Service has been that our flawed business model is the root cause of our financial instability because it imposes significant costs on us without giving us adequate business flexibility to enable us to pay for them. It is important that potential reforms to fix our business model be developed and then considered by the President and Congress in an open and transparent manner that fully analyzes the interests of America’s consumers and businesses,” Postmaster General Megan J. Brennan said.

“Ultimately, it will be for Congress to decide whether the best path to financial sustainability is to preserve the Postal Service’s status as a government institution focused on our mission of public service, while giving us more authority to meet our responsibilities, or whether a profit-maximizing corporate model is preferable. We will continue to work with all parties, including the Presidential Task Force established to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the Postal Service, to address these significant public policy issues.

  1. What a lame response from postal management. Many are the same group of fools who thought the 2006 PAEA legislation was a good thing. It was only good to those few who received significant salary increases. For everyone else, and the Post Office in general, that legislation is a disaster. Moving forward the most responsible path is to work with the Postal Regulatory Commission to allow the USPS to have a rate structure that fully funds postal operations. The PRC has the authority to accomplish this now.
Long term the USPS should be moved back “on budget” (with the PMG appointed by the President) which would allow the organization to continue to provide postal services needed (as it’s historically profitable products and markets continue to decline) by every address in the nation whether it is in a city or in the most remote area. This is and has been the Postal Services fundamental mission since it’s formation. Unfortunately current postal management continues to show they do not have a grasp on reality (or their fundamental mission) in that what they are asking from Congress is a short term band aid, at best, and will not provide the long term solution needed by this country. They are just hoping they can get a little short term relief so they can finish their careers. The objective should be a 30 or 50 year solution and not a 2-3 year solution they continue to ask for. If you think it through the best long term solution is go back on budget, as was the case for much to the USPS’s 200 year history.

  2. Oh I see that bragging again on how smart someone was for owning UPS/FDX/AMZN stocks. And they will take their buyout and run. What about other people? I remember now, you don’t care! Do you think our leader cares about you? On the Larry King Live show in2002 he said “Larry Rich People Are Better Than Poor People That’s Just The Way It Is ” So the President is such a great leader. You sure picked someone to follow. He will throw you an anchor when you become sick and old. Remember he is for ending health care. Remember how he mocked that ill reporter? Time wounds all heels!

  3. Hey we r F*** carriers are not the only ones that work! I was a clerk for 27 years and worked my ass off! Now I do admit the carriers have the hardest job in the PO! But please it is a joint effort among all of the crafts! I still usps does their job! Ups, fedex the future ha! Ups won’t even deliver too rural areas. They pay usps to do it! I just wish the country understood. But how can they when our own POTUS and congress don’t understand

  4. oh my God Trump wants to end IOD Muffin Meghan PFP bonus scam…..I am all in. now give me my 40K BUYOUT……..this place is done. Trump gets it! UPS/FDX/AMZN is the future…….USPS is looking in the rearview mirror! the oldsters are running for the exits….even without a buyout. give a 40K buyout President Trump and you will see a human stampede!

  5. DOWNSIZE THE USPS, offer an $40k early out to carriers and watch us run for the door. They never offer carriers early outs, we are the only ones who actually work and the only reason the usps is popular and has a high approval rating.
