6/21/2018 NALC President Fredric Rolando criticized the Trump administration’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) proposal to privatize the United States Postal Service, which was released today.
“This report takes direct aim at numerous agencies including USPS under the guise of reforming and restructuring for the 21st century,” President Rolando said. “The White House is making very clear that privatization of the Postal Service is its goal, despite the fact that the stakeholder meetings with the White House Postal Task Force are ongoing.
“NALC has long been committed to working with all of the stakeholders and not one has floated the idea of privatization except private shippers, who would love nothing more than to see the Postal Service dismantled.
“NALC had high hopes in engaging with this administration and its Postal Task Force to address the underlying issues facing the Postal Service, which stem from the 2006 mandate to pre-fund future retiree health benefits. The NALC along with the other postal employee unions provided recommendations to the Task Force. We were hopeful that this administration was seeking real solutions to stabilize this agency with an 88 percent public approval rating where veterans make up almost 25 percent of its workforce.
“Now that we know that this administration and its Task Force will make recommendations on reforms to achieve OMB’s privatization goals, NALC will work tirelessly with other stakeholders and Congress to oppose this faulty privatization plan every step of the way to preserve this public institution, which is based in the Constitution.”

Many employees always brag on how wonderful President Donald Dump is. Others brag about how rich and smart they are because they own UPS/ FDX/ AMZN stock, and anyone that doesn’t own that stock pick is a loser. And they will take a buy out and don’t care if the Postal service sinks. Do you really think MR. Bankruptcy cares about you at all? He cares about you as much as you care about others. In 2002 MR. Bankruptcy was on the show Larry King Live and he said ” Rich People Are Better Than Poor People That’s Just The Way It Is”. What a man to follow! What brains you have.
I love how the only argument of NALC is pre funding mandate. We have a lot more f&#$in problems than Pre mandating we need a decent PR company not the same bulls%#$&.
I agree, offer carriers a 40k buyout, and then the post office saves big $$$ for the next 13 years
Employer share of the SS/Med, (7.65%) is virtually cut in half
Difference in new employee and just hired is about $30k, in salary, w/o OT added.
USPS saves on the 5% tsp match based on new employee low wage
USPS collects 4.4% toward pensions instead of getting .8% from us.
And they would be saving for the next 13 years until they hit top pay( probably 20 years after Rolando helps add 7 more steps or years to reach the same top pay)
The first year would save the USPS a couple grand more than the $40k, year 2 thru 13 is all savings, they could buy for cash all the new delivery trucks. They could even spread the $40k over 2 years. This way Mgt can figure out how to waste the savings before its realized
Please privatize this dump. Management and the Union will have to come out of the offices to do the real work right? We will have a real union like the teamsters take over and we could get real raises , better working conditions , and we will be allowed to STRIKE. Fred Rolando (NALC) is a joke we have sorry raises , the worst working conditions ever like carriers skipping breaks and lunches , and carriers working off the clock. Around the country wether there is steward in the office or not NALC representation is non existent. Time for a change with a weak spineless union like NALC is now privatization 100% all the way.
I love how the NALC fights to keep door to door delivery.
It’s a waste of time, money and it destroys our bodies.
Going to have to give up something.
How about getting us some of those cushy Rural routes.
We had a CCA quit to take a Rural route in another office.
Says he works 5 hours and gets paid for 8.
They should be put up for bid nationwide.
No one knows about all these newbies doing nothing while
we walk all day.
There’s that pre funding word again Rolando. I wonder if you’re aware that has ended several years ago. We can plan another 1% raise on the next contract. The NALC will say that’s all we could get and say we “won” because of this huge “loss” the P.O. is experiencing. I would think if we are broke, then our paychecks would bounce. Mine hasn’t. So mb we really aren’t losing $?? Hmmmmm…….fight for decent contract instead of playing all these other games. Ignore all the other noise. That’s all this crap is. Noise
25% Veterans in Postal Circus……..how many of those staff the cushy backroom office jobs with 75K and above pay grades…….well Rolando I am waiting for your answer.
the postal circus lost $135 Billion since 2007. President Trump will not throw more money down this rat hole. give a 40K BUYOUT and see a stampede out the door. massive corruption brought down the Postal Department! President Trump will slay the po swamp beast! why should Americans settle for cat food (postal circus) when they can have filet mignon. (UPS/FDX/AMZN) a house who has let evil termites eats its foundation will not stand!
Here is some info to think about. USPS DELIVERS, “the last mile” which means USPS willl deliver ANYWHERE including the bottom of the Grand Canyon, remote homes in Alaska for the same price.
The USPS biggest customers are, UPS, FedEx and Amazon. Go to the UPS store or FedEx store and mail a parcel to someone in a remote area in the US. Than ask the person which company delivered it
While craft workers declined 23% over the last 10 years management rates swelled by 25%. Management creates jobs for management. You can cut management by 40% and the service would be just fine. Any questions?
Just returned from Wales in the UK. They have privatized and prices have skyrocketed. My wife is a UK citizen, we paid 75 dollars to forward mail for 3 months. If you go on vacation you have to pay to have your mail held. Your US post office is the best service this country has. Do not privatize under any circumstance
PLEASE PRIVATIZE US, Then we can raise rates a lot like foreign postal privatized companies and charge the same as ups gets on parcel delivery. PRIVATIZE US
Hey Rolando ya dunce, the health care payment mandate hasn’t been paid in years, so quit beating that horse to death.
How about speaking up for/taking care of us carriers for a change, instead of being a USPS spokesman.
PLEASE PRIVATIZE US, I would love a realistic wage and the right to strike like ups. Even with all of their new employees, drivers make over $35 per hour average salary. Means, many are making $40/ and that’s 1/3 higher than we make and they reach top pay in 5 years, not 13. I would love to have the Teamsters negotiate for us, rather than watch the NALC negotiate another joke of a contract. Real wages are dropping fast every time NALC gets involved.
