Cincinnati postal workers to protest job cutbacks

Update: CINCINNATI — Postal workers picketed outside of the Dalton Avenue post office Monday afternoon to protest job cutbacks the day before the national postal workers union starts contract negotiations in Washington.

Greater Cincinnati postal workers and supporters are planning a protest on Monday afternoon.

Members of the Greater Cincinnati Area American Postal Workers Union Local 164 will host a rally and informational picket line starting at 3 p.m. in front of the city’s main post office at 1623 Dalton Ave., to protest job cutbacks that they say have led to long lines and delays in mail service across the Tri-State.

Local 164 president Michael Smith said there are 51 clerk positions that haven’t been filled since April 2017.

“In low-income neighborhoods, they’re claiming not enough revenue as an excuse to close small offices, or severely reduce service hours. APWU members find that completely unacceptable, because we are pledged to deliver universal service to everyone, regardless of where you live or how much money you make,” he said in a statement.

  1. President Trump can not take away the SS Supplement…that needs a vote in Congress-House & Senate. spreading fake news like the pre-funding canard, no money paid since 2009 to the tune of 50 Billion not paid, Postal Circus owes the US Treasury 15 Billion of Taxpayers money….another lie about not using taxpayer money. President Trump won the travel ban, gets to appoint another Supreme (get to keep the 2nd from the commies and keep them from killing babies)…..I am getting tired of all the winning. AMZN $1730.00 a share. Trump is the man……smells that rotting fish known as the Postal Circus. or how do you lose $135 Billion without even trying.

  2. Just the beginning. President Dump wants to privatize the mail service. Every service the public receives now free, they will pay for in the new Dump world. Pay much more for letters mailed, vacation holds, forwarding, you name it. And as for employee benefits, cuts. Your retirement won’t be guaranteed anymore. Like Royal Mail, the precious “Free Market ” will determine how much is stolen from the annuitant. One carrier that voted for MR. Bankruptcy now isn’t happy! He wants to retire soon, but found out that he could lose $ 1,000 per month in the S.S. supplement because the supplement could end because of his pal. And any retirement he receives would be taken over by the new private bastards, oh I mean corp. Tough! He got what he wanted. He will just enjoy the screw he thought only others would receive!
