QUINCY, IL (WGEM) – The Quincy Police Department announced Sunday the arrest of an 11-year-old girl for an attack on a Quincy mail carrier .
According to police, a United States Postal Service worker reported she was hit in the back of the neck and head with a book bag while delivering mail on her route at 14th and Lind on September 23.
Quincy resident Kristie Cobb said the mail carrier knocked on her door after the attack and told her what happened.
“She had been walking down the sidewalk and three girls were yelling at her and calling her names and trying to get her attention and she told them to please leave her alone and that she was doing her job,” said Cobb. “Then when she turned around, they jumped her from the back and started hitting her in the head with backpacks.”
After questioning those around the area, the Quincy Police Department came to the conclusion only one girl was responsible for the attack.
Police said they arrested her for battery.
She’s since been released.
