Postmaster General says he had ‘no idea’ of mailboxes, equipment being removed

WASHINGTON (AP) — Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said Friday he had “no idea” blue mailboxes and sorting machines were being removed until a public uproar nationwide, as he testifies before a Senate committee digging into disruptions and changes in postal operations being made just as millions of Americans will be relying on mail-in ballots for the November election.

“I was made aware when everyone else was made aware,” DeJoy testified.

The new postmaster general faces a public backlashes over changes and delivery delays since he took the helm of the Postal Service in June. President Donald Trump praises DeJoy, a Republican donor and ally. But Democrats warn his cost-cutting initiatives are causing an upheaval that threatens the election.

    • We don’t need them.

It’s a ghost town in our plant on weekends.

Except for the bundle machine, only one or two machines run at all, on T-3.

  1. The woes of the Postal Service are NOT the fault of President Trump!!! The Postal Service has been in decline for years now. Sorting machines have been removed because the volume of mail has steadily declined and blue boxes have been removed only after “density tests” were conducted illustrating the absence of letters being mailed! So don’t blame Trump for this situation! Due your homework and check all the facts! Besides, the administration approved the $25B that was requested but the DEMS wanted to ADD a bunch of crap to the bill and therefore rejected it! Who’s really at fault here???

  2. People are G/D lazy and ignorant. There is a very very long history of partisan vote-rigging of paper-ballots,by both Democratic and Republican party machines. I’m not saying that voting largely by by mail,in the days of Covid-19,isn’t the best of all alternatives. But,it doesn’t guarantee, that there won’t be;ballot tempering-on both sides. As for,”retired and glad”,let him excise his right;and personally make a citizen’s arrest of PMG Dejoy. Or quit acting childish. If you ever worked in mail-processing facility, you know G/D well, disconnect such machines, all the time. I worked inside, for all of my 31-years,until retirement in August 2015. This includes nearly 25-years,at the Queens(NY) Mail-Processing&Distribution Center. In 2009,and 2015,probably due to the lack of good political connections, with the upper management of the Brooklyn(NY) Mail-Processing &Distribution Center. Especially since Queens,NY was the only major postal-facility,to ultimately be downsized,in 2015

  3. Dejoy will get this place whipped into shape in no time, Finally some one who is smart enough to know that if the mail moves on time, it can be delivered on time.

  4. He must be cut from the same cloth as Das Fuhrer. Daddy left him the family trucking business. He broke the unions, cut the pregnant office assistants and then claims to be a great business man.
Didn’t he change everything so he has greater control over the USPS.
But, then he pulls a Col. Klink.

    • It started back in March.

I’m in a plant. Walk your route and stop into the bar for a few hours, like you use to, “back in the day.”

Keep talking about trash. It makes you sound like Bernie.

  5. The new Prickmaster General ” didn’t know the sorting machines were being disconnected” I believe that as much as I believe in the Easter Bunny. One lie after another, the lies never end. Management should be held accountable for violating 18 Title code section 1703, whoever unlawfully delays mail shall be fined and imprisoned not more than five years. Our “great” leader is trying to destroy the postal service, and enact voter suppression.
