Tattered flag flying over New Jersey post office has resident seeing red, white and blue

Tattered and discolored, with a hole here and there, it sadly flaps in the wind, high above Broadway in Bayonne. And just seeing it there has Mike Morris seeing red — and white and blue.

It is the American flag, flying over a United States post office building. Morris, a Bayonne resident, can’t believe it is being disrespected, especially above a government building.

“My issue is this – it’s the American flag, treat it with respect,” he said. “I wonder, do people walk around with blinders and not see this thing? It’s very noticeable.”

The 55-year-old, whose brother and father are veterans, said this is not the first time that the postal facility has left Old Glory on the flagpole far too long.

About a year and a half ago he complained to employees and Bayonne’s postmaster, about a flag in similar condition, and it was finally replaced after a story about it appeared in The Jersey Journal.

“I don’t have an agenda,” Morris said. “I just respect the flag, plain and simple.”
