INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A United States postal worker has been suspended from work for seven days after passing the funeral procession for Officer Rod Bradway on Sept. 26, officials with Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said.
Onlookers captured a picture of the mail truck shortly after the mail truck passed Bradway’s hearse. The driver did not receive a ticket nor will he face any criminal charges, police said.
via USPS: Mailman passes Bradway procession, gets suspended
Just because the cop is dead means I get my junk mail late? That’s what’s wrong with this country.
I thought postal vehicles were the only vehicles that do not have to yield to ambulances and fire trucks. Is a funeral procession more important than these emergency vehicles?
If he didn’t receive a ticket and won’t face charges, then why is this a story? Lucky bastard got seven days off for this? I’m gonna start passing funeral processions every chance I get from now on!
I love you Forest
Well your right? Read it an weep like you said.
“Finally, Madison responded. “The mail truck is not even in the running, unless the guy is a complete idiot,”
UNLESS! Key word there ole hoss.
Just call me Forest an man can i run.
Seriously, how stupid do you have to be to think that a mail truck has right of way over emergency vehicles?! You guys are management material for sure!
Read it and weep: http://www.snopes.com/autos/law/fourway.asp
Bite me
obammy sux!
If the Steward is any good, it will be an official discussion.
When this guys goes to work, and he passes by the Supervisor’s office, he should leave them a BIG STEAMY one
IMO the USPS management is a shoot first ask question later towards employee’s? As I see some on here are.
Did the Indianapolis police dept, funeral home, local newspaper notified the postal service or the public of this? Did the postal service notified it’s employee’s of this?
When if ever was a stand up giving about this to employee’s?
What nationality was the employee? Any bladder or medical issues?
How many years of service did employee have? How old? Veteran?
Any tunnel vision issues? Was employee late? Traffic was it lite? Any trouble at home? Kid’s? wife? Parents just passed away? The family dog die?
What time of day? was the sun shinning? Was the employee wearing sun glasses? Did employee need glasses for driving an when was last appointment
What sex was employee? Education level? Age? Year’s driving? Year’s in this country? Did employee have a cell phone?
Alot easier to shoot first?
There is not enough info here to fully understand what happened, yet the USPS does trump fire, rescue, and police in right away situations…they are federal and get the right away….however, if the person wasn’t aware due to lack of common sense and or brought up to respect the deceased and their families then that’s another thing! It is stupid that this got to this point, if he was on a two lane road and passed the large amount of cars he probably should have been written up…..if it was a 4 lane road, he probably ought to be taken in an office and taught a lesson of respect to others….either way, not too bright!
The matter should be resolved in the greivance procedure. Reduced to a discussion or expunged. However, we don’t know all of the facts. The carrier may have thrown his beer bottle at the widow’s limo as he passed. He may have runt he hearse off into a ditch. Often when things seem excessive, there is more to it than previously reported.
If they wanted to discipline him they would cite ELM 665.16, behavior and personal habits are expected to reflect favorably on the Postal Service. Of course if everyone was held to that standard, including the highest levels of management, there were would be no Postal employees because we would all have long since been fired. I would certainly would have.
I had a friend that was over an hour late to work because the road was closed because of the funeral procession. She had to wait for the funeral procession to pass. It is drilled into the carriers head to be back on time. Besides the fact, carriers have been getting their mail later, mail dispatches and pied out routes cause them delays. I agree there should’ve been some respect given for the officer, but the public doesn’t understand and neither do some of management when it comes to respect. Most management is reactive instead of proactive. If communication had been in place, management could’ve adjusted his route that day. Too bad, when it comes to common sense, Some of our management just can’t manage that way.
Now now brown cow, take a look around oh great an wise one.
Take thee head out of the sand, this hole place is being run by fools.
can’t go to the national park anymore or bury my dead, furlough by fools an now you? Dot com this Ya butthole.
E. Maiden Johnson says:
Postal mail carrying vehicles has the right of way over Fire, Police, and emergency vehicles, however, passing a funeral procession is not in order.
Better run that theory through snopes.com before posting such nonsense and proving yourself an ignorant fool…
If he didn’t pass the procession he would have gotten suspended for taking too long on his route. Damned if you do, …
Did the carrier put it on his 96 when he came back from the street???
Neither rain nor snow, nor sleet, nor people dead or alive.
emergency lights an sirens we requested from Congress installed on all postal vehicle’s aren’t here yet?
Issa? WTF?
I’m going with all your tsp belongs to “me” it could of been a Hell’s Angels procession. Gone bonkers an all common sense an manners went out the door along time ago within the post office
They are afraid of the corpse might turn into a zombie if you passing his funeral possession.
E. Maiden Johnson must be joking ,youve got it all backwards son .Police fire and medical emergency trump the mail always but a funeral procession no ergency.
Common sense is to pass, plain manners is for the procession to yield to traffic .Gone bonkers the guy is dead and in no rush .No suspension is deserved ,but an apoligy is to the driver !What law rule or regulation was violated ,the only violation was the drivers rights.how did usps find out about this ,was he pulled over by some police officer abusing his authority .There are too many unknowns here and just sounds like another case of abuse.
I agree that our great union will get suspension reduced. Probably get a letter of warning. But that was a pretty stupid move
This article is short on details of the incident. If the carrier passed on a two lane highway, it is wrong. If it was a 4 lane highway and the speed limit on the road was more than 55 MPH than the carrier could pass it. Most processions when up to speed go 45 MPH or the posted speed whichever is lower, however the procession will not go above 45 MPH.
What does DOIS say about this?????? No time to stay in line?????? WTF
Postal mail carrying vehicles has the right of way over Fire, Police, and emergency vehicles, however, passing a funeral procession is not in order.. That is a no-brainer, But the Midwest and close states have some draconian highway laws. Please don’t cross the Pecos. He will get a ticket that the judge will honor, states law in many western areas.
The U.S.P.S. is the highest form of Government but not when breaking the law.
They really didn’t give enough detail. He didn’t actually kill the officer, he just passed the funeral procession. It would be nice if ordinary employees had time to be in parades or attend ribbon cutting ceremonies and etc.,but the job just doesn’t allow it. NALC will win grievance on this.
Bet it was a CCA, who was sweating bullets under typical mgmt draconian pressure to get done with the route quicker.
It will be grieved by the NALC and be overturned…guaranteed… (Although I strongly disagree with what he did, show some respect for the deceased…)
GordonG: Common Sense, plain MANNERS? Your comment is what is wrong with America today. Your type of attitude is why we have stickers on lawn mowers: “don’t pick up mower while mower is running” and ‘no shirt, no shoes, no service” on entry doors.
What rule or regulation did the carrier not follow to get a suspension?
