Fashion-able stamp art
Artist Audrey Yankielun of Westfield, NJ, creates clothing using hand-sewn, canceled stamps —wearable pieces of art.
Yankielun’s first stamp garment was a fully-lined woman’s jacket featuring stamps from the 1920’s through 2005. The jacket contains 165 rows of stamps, and each row has just one type of stamp. There are no repeating rows. The artist used about 1,350 stamps and completed it in five months.
She also made a purse, vest and child’s sundress. “I try to challenge myself by attempting to use as few stamps as possible with no repeating combinations,” said Yankielun. “Or, I create patterns with the many duplicates.”
