The Trial and Verdict: Dump the Postmaster General
07/22/2014 – After noting that some have called Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe’s actions criminal, and a clear violation of the law that created and maintains the Postal Service as a fundamental right of the people, APWU President Mark Dimondstein called the PMG “Wall Street’s Trojan Horse, the privatizer from within.”
“Now I wouldn’t want to recklessly charge the PMG without a fair hearing and the opportunity to be judged by a jury of his peers. You all look like a jury of his peers. Brothers and Sisters I am now calling you to jury duty.”
What were the charges?
“We charge Donahoe with slowing down the mail, undermining service and demolishing tens of thousands of good jobs by closing processing plants. What say you? Is he innocent or guilty as charged?” The ‘jury’ roared, Guilty!
“We charge Donahoe with dismantling the Postal Service through post office closings, reduction in customer service hours, constant efforts to end six-day and door delivery, subcontracting Motor Vehicle Service work and outsourcing Maintenance Craft duties.” Guilty, the delegates shouted.
“We charge Donahoe with privatizing retail work and transferring decent, union living-wage jobs to low-wage jobs with Village Post Offices and dirty deals like the one with Staples.” Guilty, again!
“We charge Donahoe with selling off historic post offices that belong to the people.” And the ‘jury’ said, Guilty!
President Dimondstein responded to the verdicts with the chant “Hey, Hey, Ho, Ho, Donahoe has got to go! What say you?” The delegates replied in kind, “Hey, Hey, Ho, Ho, Donahoe has got to go.”
“Let’s fight for a new PMG who will champion the institution he – or she – is entrusted to lead.”
During the Labor–Management Committee report a motion was introduced to transpose the agenda and a resolution was introduced to “Dump the PMG which read: “Resolved, that this body of the APWU calls for the resignation of Postmaster General Donahoe, and his replacement with a PMG who will defend public postal services instead of dismantling them.”
The delegates passed the resolution with an unanimous vote followed once again by the chant, “Hey Hey, Ho, Ho, Donahoe has got to go.”
Wanted posters with Donahoe’s picture and the inscription ‘Wanted: For Crimes Against the Public Postal Service’ were passed out to the delegates who were encouraged to post them on bulletin boards in the workplace.

Wow…what a speech! Can’t wait for all those jobs to go up! APWU is powerful once again! They strike fear into the hearts of management! This means we all get higher salaries and more jobs! No one will mess with the great APWU! Please…please increase my dues!
Bravo to the Apwu convention for demanding Pat Donahoe to resign as Postmaster General! Pat has become full of himself a little arrogant as of late! And bold enough to call him out on the spot in a public forum for the crimes he has committed from speaker Diamondstein! Believe me, no one agrees with Donahoe’s recent proposals. I hope that other organizations and unions demand that Pat Donahoe gets his walking papers. And the Wanted posters of Pat are right on point!
What jobs? Staples had no jobs. Diamonstein knew that. This was all a photo op to make everyone think the union was doing something. Have you been to your PO lately? Business comes in trickles and the rest of the time clerks are sweeping up in the back,twiddling their thumbs or doing carrier duties. Diamonstein has no answer for this and no constructive ideas…just picket and go on TV. He will never tell his minions that the elimination of the Staples project would result in jobs. If anyone said that…they lied! Time for the entitled urbanites to move elsewhere for employment.
If the APWU is successfull, are they really that foolish to believe those windows jobs are coming back to the USPS. A clerk selling stamps at $.49 making $25 an hour the math doesn’t add up

Just a clear example of the absence of common sense on the part of these ignorant lemmings. Resolutions come and go at APWU national party sessions. They are brought to the floor, everybody unanimously vote in favor, the delegates cheer and scream their approval, break for lunch, some come back after lunch and some don’t. Some go back to their suites paid for courtesy of union dues to prepare for the evening festivities. Every year since the 70s, a resolution was unanimously passed that non-members would not receive union representation or enjoy the fruits of negotiated salaries. Everbody gave standing ovations spilling their drinks while doing so. 40+ years later has it ever happened? Will it? No! So what have we learned class? Well…resolutions are part of smoke and mirrors designed to create a good feeling of achievement amongst the throngs of lemmings. Union officers get up on stage and wave fingers, slam their fists and rile up the crowd. Meanwhile, the ignorant leave at the end with tremendous hangovers and their receipts to turn in to the union for compensation of their week long party.
It will never happen. The investors and businessmen smell money! Our great leaders don’t care about right or wrong, only what they can get away with. That’s why workers are screwed every day. And as for the B.O.G., they love his royal majesty king Donahoe. President Obama just appointed five Ratpublicans to the Postal Board of Governors, so you know how the president feel about the Postal Service. I would love for it to happen! We must fight ,the meek will inherit nothing!
I swear the general public has to be laughing their ass off at all of us- carriers, clerks, union leaders, ect……this whole thing is a comedy….Union leaders shout: “we need postal reform now!” and something comes out and they say what a bad idea that is….. and then in the next breath we hear: “we need postal reform now!” and something comes out and they say what a bad idea that is….. it is only a game and politics and it wont change….. “hey hey ho ho donahoe has to go”….really?? wow, we do sound like idiots….. well at least I get a good laugh daily
It’s good to see the APWU get active. I hope the NALC follows suit. Donahoe is indeed a threat to the life of the Service, and it amazes me that he’s been in there that long. There’s no telling what will happen now that 5 day delivery is kaput, at least for a while. I’m pretty sure it’ll be ugly, though.
That’s all well and good,but it needs to be directed at the BOG,who appoints or removes the PMG,Donablow justs laughs at this.
