APWU: Labor Leaders Meet with Presidential Candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders

Labor Leaders Meet with Presidential Candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders 07/13/2015 – WASHINGTON – A “meet and greet” was held at the office of the American Postal Workers Union this evening between more than 40 U.S. labor leaders and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), who is running for president.

“Bernie Sanders has been an outspoken champion of postal customers, postal workers and the public Postal Service – demanding expanded services for all Americans, an end to mail delays, and an end to the closure of postal facilities,” said APWU President Mark Dimondstein.

“And he has been a forceful advocate for working people for decades. He’s not in the pocket of big corporations. We thought it was important to hear his ideas about the 2016 campaign – especially how he plans to take on the big-money interests that are strangling our political system and our economy.

“There has been tremendous interest and excitement about his campaign in the labor movement,” he said.

The meeting at APWU’s office was co-hosted by former president of the Communications Workers of America Larry Cohen, APWU President Mark Dimondstein and APWU Secretary-Treasurer Elizabeth Powell. Neither the APWU nor the CWA has endorsed a presidential candidate in 2016. Both unions are affiliates of the AFL-CIO.

  1. It’s already too late for this country. Obama has made the deal with the devil and soon we will be a sheet of glass.

    • time for UPS and FDX professional management to take over this dump. carve it up like a turkey. corrupt govt can not run anything. Border Patrol, IRS, OPM, VA Health on and on it goes. Donald Trump will make America Great Again…….start by stopping US Postal Circus losing another 80 billion by stupid, low IQ, uneducated bureaucrats. govt should collect taxes, make laws, and run the military….that’s it period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! govt is to bloated! states rights…shrink govt! get a real job!

  2. So Bernie is a Commie? Not true! You want D. Trump? You can keep him. Go ahead and vote for an anti worker Ratpublican if you want. God save us from this moneyocracy government we have. Just greed and more greed! You think things are bad now, just wait till we get another President like ex President Forrest Gump, the village idiot. Never did find those weapons of mass deception. So go and vote for a big money Rat. You will soon be working for very little.

  3. Oh please… The APWU allowing itself to be associated with this socialist candidate? Maybe I interpret history incorrectly, but the Teamsters supported Nixon, and who got Hoffa out of the Lewisburg Penitentiary? Whoever the Republican nominee is, the unions should give him bags of money as insurance. You got moral qualms with that? As Churchill said about the Soviet Union after Yalta: “It is permitted in the time of grave danger to walk with the Devil until you have crossed the bridge.”

If the APWU was really smart, it would endorse a republican; and suddenly, everything would miraculously improve as to the unions’ positions.

Sanders is not Eugene Debs. All socialists are not the same. The APWU is making a tactical mistake by supporting him. The APWU could use some Kissinger like leadership. Make the enemy a powerful asset.

  4. vote for this avowed commie…..I do not think so. between Pol Pot, Castro, Stalin, and Mao over 130 million murdered. to keep this crummy little civil service job run by a corrupt government……..they can keep it. Donald Trump 2016!!!!!!!! from the greatest generation to the worst in 3 generations………God save us from this evil!

    • Good point about the murders. But you left out the military related deaths of 9 million Red Army personnel and families by Hitler. Yeah, some were commies but most had absolutely no choice as to whether they were killed by the Germans or by their own government. We wrote the history books, and failed to note that had not all those bullets been spent on the Eastern Front, it would have cost us a lot more lives in the West. Just a thought.

The Partition of the Indian subcontinent in 1947, the East Pakistan war of independence in 1971. Add several more million. We are murderous race.

  5. Bernie Sanders has no chance what-so-ever of becoming the next U.S. president. He will say what u want 2 hear. So what? It is yet another sign of empty rhetoric and gross ineptitude of the current APWU National leadership.

  6. Bernie Sanders, our last chance to save our so called democracy.
The one candidate that can’t and won’t be bought.
    Go Bernie !!!
