The APWU is renewing its television ad campaign, with spots airing on NBC Nightly News, CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News beginning July 8, President Cliff Guffey has announced.
This APWU TV ad will air on NBC, CNN, MSNBC and Fox beginning July 8. |
“With postal bills pending in Congress, it is imperative that we remind the American people of the crucial role the Postal Service — and our members — play in meeting our nation’s commerce and communication needs,” he said.
First up is a 30-second ad that describes the enormous task postal workers perform, and ends with a simple question and response: Ever wonder what this costs you as a taxpayer? Not a single cent.
“The ad first aired in July 2011 and helped dispel the persistent myth that the Postal Service is funded by taxpayers,” Guffey said.
“With the USPS facing a manufactured financial crisis, some politicians have suggested the USPS is seeking a taxpayer bailout. They have attempted to use this false claim to justify radical legislation that would lead to the demise of the Postal Service,” he said.
A draft postal bill released by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) on June 13 would “punish postal workers, privatize major portions of the USPS, and deprive the American people of vital services,” Guffey said.
The ad is intended to support the union’s campaign to defeat detrimental legislation such as the draft bill circulated by Rep. Issa, and to win support for bills that would correct the cause of the USPS financial crisis.
“Our members must ask their senators and representatives in Congress to endorse the Postal Service Protection Act” (H.R. 630/S. 316) Guffey said, “which would help solve the USPS financial crisis without hurting workers or downgrading mail service. We also should seek support for the Protect Overnight Delivery Act (H.R. 2459), which would help safeguard mail processing centers.”

Maybe not the “less than 40 hours” stipulation(..which I am unsure of) but the NALC(..got the CCA) and NPMHU(..got the MHA) both got a lower wage work force implementation. The frame work is now in place to reduce the wages of postal labor over time.
The arbitrators did not impose all of the bad provisions of the crap APWU CBA on the other unions. The worst provisions the APWU agreed to,the two tier pay scale and less than full time NTFT bids were not put into the NRLCA,NALC and NPMHU contracts by the arbitrators.
They must be getting ready for the mid-term elections, so they have to resurrect the “Issa Boogeyman”, never mind that the democrats also voted for the single biggest piece of legislation that Cliff “Two Tier Pay scale” Guffey and his cadre’ of clowns at the national had implemented vis-a’-vis the CBA, which then got handed down to the other unions that went to arbitration.
Frank, I’m pretty sure FOX news has more than 1 share, but the rest of them I totally agree with you on. The problem becomes that the disciples of the left that believe anything that the Union says about Postal Finances. The USPS does have statutory authority to borrow from the treasury and has every year for quite sometime, this can be looked up and verified pretty easily. Once that is proven to these disciples they then say “..but it is less than 1% of total revenue”, to which I say that that is a “distinction without a difference” to a tax payer…none really does mean none! The over payment that the Union likes to whine about is a little murkier, it is based in part on an “ASSUMED” interest rate formula that was agreed upon by USPS official and the Congress that was seated at that time. That interest rate didn’t materialize so those funds didn’t grow at the “ASSUMED” rate…thanks to the Obama administrations money printing operations with the full support of comrade Bernanke.
As of today this president is still printing 85 billion a month and has been for at least three+ years. We still have no budget after 4 1/2 years so they(..Congress) have been passing continuing resolutions, which don’t allow for cutting and can be padded with so much pork that it would embarrass a pig farmer!
Gotta love the way they picked shows with a less than 1 share. That’ll show em
