The APWU has placed a full-page ad in The Harvard Crimson calling on Harvard University President Drew Faust “to do the right thing or resign.” The right course of action, the ad says, is for Dr. Faust to use her influence to end the no-bid deal Faust serves on the board of Staples, where she earns $300,000 per year.
Staples is notorious for paying its employees poverty-level wages, the ad points out. A 2012 study by the National Employment Law Project listed Staples among the 50 largest low-wage employers in the country. Since 2007, Staples has paid roughly $80 million to settle more than a dozen class-action lawsuits alleging ‘wage theft.’
Staples foray into the postal business will have serious repercussions: It will facilitate the transfer of stable, living-wage jobs to high-turnover, poverty-wage jobs; downgrade the quality of postal services, and hasten the privatization of the United States Postal Service, the ad says.
“If Dr. Faust can’t use her influence to end this dirty deal, she should resign from the Staples board,” it concludes

In a stunning turn of direction, APWU will demand that Postal management be declared terrorists. Local union members were joyful at the news. “I love it when the union says stuff like this” members were heard saying. One supporter said, “They shouldn’t stop there…they should demand that gas prices go down!”
The California city of Palmdale was ready to roll out the red carpet this summer when a Japanese company agreed to build a $60 million factory on a city-owned, vacant parcel on the southwest side of town — but now the company is taking its project out of state and critics say union greed is to blame. Go union…you make us strong…and unemployed with no jobs while you scare away employers! Just like Hostess…follow me off this ledge and keep paying dem dues bruthas n sistas!
All I can say is doing things as ridiculous as badgering a university president to quit their job because Mark Dildostein dosent like a deal made by the postal service. Really? Way to go Marky Mark! Makes me embarassed to be a dues paying APWU member. Its kind of like me buying an ad in the New York Slimes asking you to resign because your a union president and I dont like cauliflower….
Its a good ad. Clearly states the Union position on the dirty Staples deal. Its time to merge the Postal Unions in order to thrive in the marketplace of owner collusion.
We don’t even feel we have APWU union in our SF NDC installation because APWU stewards are almost useless to fight for employees. In the past, I had requested to see Tour-3, clerk steward a few times, but steward refused to see me for personal reasons by saying see another unavailable steward (off day).
Dear APWU President:
We want you to know some of your tour-3, stewards in San Francisco NDC have conflict of interests in performing of steward duties; personal own interests versus steward duties. Stewards who cooperate with management receive personal own privileges, such as: (1) eight hours union time automatically, don’t even need to report to supervisor to get his or her union time (2) steward are watching TV, and playing dominoes on the clock, during the work hours, no problem whatever steward wants to do, management is turning a blind eye on stewards, (3) steward can request and get annual leave and/or sick leave anytime (4) Stewards should have been working on grievances not watching sports and playing dominoes on the clock. In return, management gets reciprocal benefits from steward(s) such as: (1) steward doesn’t voluntarily file contractual violation grievances, (2) management receives advice from steward regarding grievances, stewards should have known better than that management is opposing party regarding grievances (3) stewards automatically grant grievance extensions, even untimely requests by management (4) management gets favorable grievance settlements (5) stewards turn a blind eye to contractual violations, such as: supervisor performing bargaining unit works on a daily basis, but APWU stewards are turning a blind eye on it. APWU stewards often make very bad grievance settlements, for examples: grievance settlements do not address grievant’s concerns/issues, contractual violations, settlement letters don’t contain the remedy union and/or grievant is seeking, often employee gets very bad grievance settlement. Our local APWU stewards are useless, so we have to file our own petitions, file EEO to resolve our issues with supervisors. SF NDC, APWU stewards are totally out of touch with the employees and don’t care about employees’ concerns, and contractual violations as long as they get their own personal privileges from his/her supervisor and MDO(s), so that many members are quitting and planning to quite more from the union. We are strongly believed that our union dues are being wasted and are being neglected by our own local SF NDC stewards for their own personal privileges from management.
This is what your APWU spends dues money on. Commercials demanding the PMG quit, ad space telling Harvard University President Drew Faust to quit… whats next? Demand Bohner quit his post in Congress? Chastise Apple for its treatment of employees? Demand that law enforcement follow leads as to where Hoffa is buried? Full page ads in the Wall Street Journal telling readers not to buy stock in a company? Demand Israel stop bombing Palestine? What BS! This is what desperate people do. This is what magicians call the art of distraction. We once had a small union president that go to labor/management meetings’ pound on the table, threaten unfair labor practices and walk out with all his minions in tow. While outside they would all high five each other impressed with the dog and pony show that took place. All the while one would be heard asking…”so what did you accomplish for the members?” Its all about distraction so no one sees what is really going on!Old union trick still alive today. Yell and do a lot of screaming and chest pounding. Get everyone to think,”now that’s what I call a union rep!” He’s working hard for me! If they only knew…if you only knew. Ask old school Omar…he’s good at that sort of thing.
Another example of what’s wrong with APWU president; who died and made you a devine being. If they don’t have your views you’re not relevant. You elected this piece of S…. And he will destroy the clerk craft.
