The Postal Service’s release on Aug. 8 of a series stamps featuring iconic images of the workers who built the nation’s bridges, railways, and skyscrapers almost a century ago is more than a little ironic, the APWU noted.
”We’re pleased that the USPS is paying tribute to the workers who made America the envy of the world,” said APWU President Cliff Guffey, “but the gesture would mean a lot more if the Postal Service were not simultaneously lobbying Congress for the right to slash the retirement and healthcare benefits of its own employees.
“Congress’ failure to pass legislation to repeal the disastrous requirement to pre-fund healthcare benefits for future retirees has pushed the Postal Service to the edge of bankruptcy,” Guffey said, “and the USPS is pushing ahead with plans to dismantle the nation’s mail processing and delivery network — jeopardizing service and jobs.
“It’s time for Congress to pass the Postal Service Protection Act (S. 315/H.R. 630),” he said.
Many of the images in the new stamps were captured years ago by the famous photographer Lewis Hine, a Progressive Era social reformer who used his photography to honor workers and to help bring an end to child labor.

“We will champion the rights of employees and bring to light the abuses of USPS but, as for me in my house…screw the employee!”
What a title, “APWU: USPS Issues Stamps Honoring Workers, But What About Its Own?”…. the PO has zero workers, just employees.
The usps doesnt care about its employees. Employees are now disposable to them. It has become a do for me with nothing in return for you attitude. Especially in my office where we are continually told we are garbage and also told to give me more and pump up my numbers. Not once is a “good job ” or “thank you “offered.
The irony of issuing stamps honoring workers while destroying their own workforce is no surprise when you see how out of touch management seems to be.
Hypocrites of the First Degree!!Get your 1188s in order y’all. The time is here and the APWU is done. Self-preservation…that’s what it’s all about! Superseniority for junior stewards allows them to bump senior military war vets getting excessed…APWU officer only hush hush Retirement fund paid for by union dues that the ordinary lemming can’t get! In-fighting at local unions…political favors…stoned and drunk and on and on…unionism has left the building folks! Either get the NLRB to sanction a decertification vote of APWU or just mail em your 1188! Don’t be fools!
In reading the above award against the APWU, I thought to myself….and USPS is bad? If the union treats its own employees like that then is unionism truly alive and well? So I sent the APWU my 1188 and gave myself a raise! All is well!
