As reports of undelivered packages pile up, Postal Service says volume is greater than ever

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Problems with packages in the mail are popping up across Indiana, and the Postal Service said it’s trying to keep up, but the volume of packages is larger than ever before.

News 8 has received dozens of reports of shipped orders only showing “in transit” when tracked. People told News 8 that not only is it impacting holiday gifts, but it’s also caused business owners to lose money.

Gregory Jones, president of the Indianapolis area Local 130 Postal Workers Union, said during the holiday season that post offices would see upwards of 500,000 pieces of mail on the busiest day. Now, that number is being reached and exceeded nearly every day.

“It actually looks like a big warehouse with little room to move,” Jones explained when describing what distribution centers and warehouses are dealing with.

“Postal workers are also victims. I hear that they are skipping their lunches and working extra hours. Could we have planned ahead? We knew this was coming,” said Newman.

  1. It was a “great idea for the man that bought his job to cut employee’s working hours, pull sorting machines, and order mail processing to slow down around election time! Part of Das Fat Dildo’s idea to destroy the Postal Service. The P.M.G. is providing the same leadership management provided to Sears running the great store into the ground. The Postal employees that supported Das Fat Dildo will be happy when their employment, retirement, and health care is gone.

    • You are far more on top of how the system works than you are letting
on. This problem with right sizing has been going on for many years.
Your free to believe in whom ever you wish, but the truth, and the facts are the thing that these current workers are basing their future on. In Michigan where I’m from. They have been closing plants for longer than 5 years. I hear a lot of noise about voting by mail, but what was the outcome?. You should be dancing in the street, like some of the public where. I agree you that , I wish the facts where different. Many workers have been thrown under the since 2008 with Potter, and our last fearless leader. Disinformation is no help!.

  2. While additional workers may help with the problem of record parcel volume, we only have so many parcel sorting machines in each facility to quickly process the packages. Too bad so many facilities were shutdown a few years ago! We could sure use the extra capacity now!
Here in Tulsa, we are wall to wall with parcels and trucks in the parking lot, waiting to unload mail, but no place to put it.
