Bloomfield Township residents walk mailman’s route in his memory

Reggie Bennett was a 36 year postal worker

Reggie Bennett had a lot of friends, both on the job where he was beloved by his fellow mail carriers and in the community where he had delivered mail on the same route for 30 years.

About 45 neighbors and postal employees got together Wednesday in a Bloomfield Township subdivision to walk part of his route in his honor.

postal61Bennett, 54, was found dead in his Detroit home more than a month ago. His family suspected foul play, but the Wayne County Medical Examiner has said he died of natural causes. Some are skeptical of that result, but Bennett has been laid to rest. Although he’s gone, his friends are making sure that he will never be forgotten.

Many of the families in the adjacent subdivisions of Bloomfield Crossing and North Bloomfield Hills are displaying big blue ribbons on their mailboxes in honor of their fallen friend, and Bennett’s fellow mail carriers organized Wednesday’s walk.

  1. Though I have never been a carrier, I appreciate what they do for the image of the Postal Service. My crotchety retired neighbor doesn’t seem to like anybody, but he is genuinely friendly with his Mailman. I wonder if the Postal Service would have survived without the PR these carriers give the Agency. Of course there are bad apples, but generally speaking, people like their Carriers.

  2. Nice job “moderator”. You let such stupidity as “bozo’s” comment through on an article about a memorial?! Good lord!!
