A coalition of postal unions will host a town hall meeting in Industry Wednesday to warn the public about changes to their mail service that could delay mail across the San Gabriel Valley.

The meeting at 7 p.m. at the Pacific Palms Resort, 16200 Temple Avenue, will focus on the U.S. Postal Service’s plan to consolidate 82 mail processing facilities across the country. This includes the Industry Processing and Distribution Center on Gale Avenue.

USPS’s plan drew protests from four postal unions who it will result in “delayed and degraded mail service.” The unions estimate 120 part-time workers will lose their jobs and those who continue will need to relocate to another facility up to 50 miles away.

This is all happening without them informing the public about exactly what they’re doing,” said Barnesa Chatterfield, a spokesperson for the American Postal Workers Union. Coalition United, which is opposing the plan, includes the APWU, the National Postal Mail Handlers Union, the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association and the National Association of Letter Carriers.
