1/1/2021 Prosecutors allege that a Midlothian man beat a postal carrier whom he accused of pepper-spraying his teenage stepson as the carrier tried to repel a dog.
Lawrence Murillo, 35, is charged with aggravated battery and unlawful vehicular invasion following the incident in the southwest suburb Dec. 17, according to Cook County prosecutors and court records. Judge Arthur Wesley Willis set bail at $100,000 during an online bond hearing Friday morning.
Assistant State’s Attorney Ryan DeGroot said at the hearing that a U.S. Postal Service carrier “was forced to Mace” an unleashed and aggressive dog. Moments later, a boy appeared and asked the carrier why he sprayed the dog. The child then leashed the dog and left, DeGroot said.
Once he was in his truck, the carrier heard a loud bang on the side of the vehicle, the prosecutor said. Murillo entered the truck and asked why the carrier had sprayed the child, DeGroot said. Murillo then punched the carrier in the face and head until he crumpled under the steering wheel, stopping only when someone nearby said the carrier had “had enough,” the prosecutor alleged. DeGroot said the carrier suffered a broken rib, bruises and eye hemorrhaging.

“A delivery driver was chased down Wednesday by an unhappy customer who allegedly pulled a small knife and threatened to kill him after mistakenly bringing a pizza to his Tinley Park home.
Lawrence Murillo, 28, of the 16000 block of Olcott Avenue, was charged with aggravated assault, Tinley Park police said. He denied brandishing a blade during an exchange with the delivery driver Wednesday, July 17.
Murillo became annoyed when he found out the pizza was not from Aurelio’s, according to a Tinley Park police report. He exchanged words with the driver and then followed him out to the car. That’s when Murillo is said to have pulled a knife and yelled, “I’m going to kill you.”
