NORTH PARK — The U.S. Postal Service says it is investigating how hundreds of pieces of mail ended up in the trash last week.
“The whole neighborhood’s mail was in the dumpster,” including scores of city sticker renewal notices and “a lot of private mail,” said Samuel Tenenbaum of the 60659 ZIP code, who made the discovery on Thursday.
“It’s ridiculous,” said Tenenbaum, who found the mail in a dumpster in the 3500 block of West Thorndale Avenue. He immediately called police and the Postal Service and shared the discovery on social media, he said.
Three postal employees arrived to cart away the mail, he said
Mail Found Dumped in North Park Trash, Inspector General Investigating
My route has 960 stops. Union or no, I think anybody who can’t get a 400 stop route done on most days is a goof off. I had an NBA who bragged about his route getting down to just two or three streets and he was proud of it. The NALC, and I’m a branch president, has a lousy attitude about expecting carriers to do an honest day’s work. They want us to go slow as possible just to fuck with management, but they don’t seem to care that such attitudes can put us and them out of work.
Like it or not, we’re still postal employees and it’s our work that keeps the USPS going, so don’t burn bridges. I don’t want overburdened routes either, or people running, but that is up to the carrier to monitor him or herself to see to it they aren’t being expected to do twice the work of someone else getting overtime to do half the work.
Service is going downhill because of CCA’s who aren’t taught the importance of accuracy and reliability. Even some after converting to regular continue to run, work through lunch and breaks and scatter mail to Hell and back no matter how much we veteran carriers try to convince them to put the customer first. Until management quits playing their stupid DOIS games and realizes you can’t just fling the mail all over the place and run like an idiot, allowing pressured carriers to do dumb shit like dumping mail, service will only continue to go downhill. The NALC screwed the pooch agreeing to this program, just like they ruined good representation by giving too broad powers to crooked and corrupt DRT members and not rotating them on a regular basis to ensure objectivity.
Remember Valpak, non-profit mail, and other monthly junk mail always comes first ahead of the private first class mail. It has color code, the supervisor always push us to do the standard mail ahead of other nice and clean mail…..Good job….USPS.
Remember, the NALC agreed to the hiring of CCAs during collective bargaining
Lack of training. When the P.O. hires people they should explain the consequences of destroying the mail or stealing from it. I know people will laugh at this statement but over the years occasionally some thing like this happens and some dumb ass kid will do some thing like this. I’m not saying that it’s always a new hire some times it’s a career employee but more times then not it’s some new person who say’s ” F this!” and abandons the mail some where. Where I work years ago a casual threw his satchel and #3 sacks off a bridge. Then called the office to tell them to shove the job and what he did with the mail. Unfortunately he paid a heavy price for that indiscretion. Long with ending up with a criminal record.
Like I care. I will still get my bonus. So will my mis-management people. Remember people, we are not responsible for anything. Its good to be Postmaster General 🙂
Another fine job by a CCA. Congrats USPS. Keep em coming
Chicago certainly seems to be the nation’s epicenter of bad mail service. On the bright side-give them credit for team work. Service couldn’t possibly be that bad without the full cooperation of craft employees and management employees alike. No matter how bad the service gets in your town, carriers can always tell their customers, “At least this isn’t Chicago.”
What is a “city sticker”? Sounds like another liberal tax
Look what happens when you pay people less and work them more hours. My bet it’s a new hire.
so what its the new USPS?
No doubt this will turn out to be one of our wonderful new CCA’s! The future of our once proud organization!!!
The postal service brought this on there self, they cut back on people that are full times and know there job well. Then they cut back hours and hire TE who are paid less then full times, so what do you thinks going to happen. We need get back to what the postal service was all about over hundred years ago.As long as we have people with power and are setting back with there heads up there ass the postal service is going down the tube real fast.
How’s this cca program workin out for ya, ya greedy, corrupt, inept mgmt scum ?
This is what happens, when the greed of postal mgmt. does away with career carriers.
What a disgrace the Chicago Post Office is!! The city routes are no more than 350 – 400 deliveries, and their ‘stellar’ carriers can’t finish within 8 hours!! Management is to blame for letting them get away with it for so many years.
