LONGMONT — The steep hills on Jose Chavez’s route sometimes leave other postal workers winded.
“Nobody likes to go up them,” said Chavez, 41. “That’s OK. Job security.”
For the past 12 years, Chavez has delivered mail along the same route to homes in Olde Town Longmont along Third Avenue. Right now, he’s responsible for about 460 homes.
He was walking that same route when the feeling drained from the left side of his body. In 2001, doctors determined he had multiple sclerosis.
“I’ve been managing it for 10 years,” he said.
