WASHINGTON – House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., today applauded Canada Post, the Canadian postal service, for moving to phase out expensive to-the-door delivery for paper mail. Chairman Issa, chief sponsor of H.R. 2748, the Postal Reform Act of 2013, has advanced similar reforms.
“As technology advances, the Canadian people are changing the way they use paper mail. Canada Post has recognized this reality and responded to it. The Canadian government is supportive of its decision to modernize,” said Chairman Issa. “The American people have also changed the way they use paper mail and the cash-strapped United States Postal Service must respond accordingly. Likewise, Congress and the Administration need to grant USPS the flexibility to modernize its mail delivery and eliminate unnecessary costs.”
The vast majority of American homes do not receive expensive to-the-door delivery, but instead receive less expensive curbside or centralized delivery. The Postal Reform Act, which was approved by the Committee in July, would require USPS to transition 30 million delivery points over 10 years. This provision will save the financially distressed USPS at least $4 billion per year and is one of the largest opportunities for USPS savings.
Canada Post ended expensive Saturday delivery of paper mail for its customers in 1969. Issa’s legislation would also allow USPS to do the same, saving additional billions. A Senate companion bill also includes provisions to end the forced delivery of paper mail on Saturdays and delivery point modernization.
charlie-No amount of money will get the Teabugar, Kool-Aid drinking fools in Issa’s district to vote for his opponent,as they would vote for Hitler if he were on their ballot.
ooh…….I see my UPS & FDX stock going up more. I hedged against this corrupt po mismgt by buying these stocks…….these dummies who run the po into the dirt have put $$$$$$ into my pocket. Issa keep up the good work, these po peasants don’t realize these po mismanagers are keeping them down.
If you want issa out of congress—- send $$$ to his opponent. If every person who moans about issa sent $5 to his opponent, then all the big buck donations to issa could be balanced out.

Wow, these sandwich lines are funny stuff! Keep up the good work!
Fed-ex has already given this sleaze-bag over a million.
Curbside delivery is not cheaper than door to door delivery. I’ve been carrying for 30 years.
Of course, no mention of the fact that the USPS made $600 Million delivering the mail without centralized delivery. The only reason we are “cash strapped” is because of morons like the dishonorable Mr. Issa. Convicted criminal, but they keep electing him.
Still does nothing to correct the over payments put into effect from the lame duck Congress. If Congress leaves us alone and stop stealing the money and asking for more we would not be in the predicament. That’s all i have to say about that.
Issa must have stock in Pitney-Bowes
Why does this douche issa have it out for the post office. This guys just a loser.
IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN IN THE U.S.A,CONGRESS WILL DO NOTHING,SO THINGS WILL STAY THE SAME.
Issa’s political career should be ended!
I hope this doesn’t happen to our services.
Too many people have stood back and done nothing.
Gordon Lightfoot Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald
Wreck Of The U.S. Postal Service
Our Postal Service was founded in 1775 with Benjamin Franklin being our first Post Master.
The Postal Service is in trouble because of a 2006- law that requires the Postal Service to pre-fund the cost of retiree’s benefits for the next 75 years in 10 years time.
No other company or agency in America is required to do this.
In June 2011 legislation was introduced which will be the Wisconsin of the Postal Service if it becomes law. It will dismantle collective bargaining and forbid payment of severance pay to retirement-eligible employees. And reduce delivery services and close plants and post offices.
Another bill which would prevent the financial collapse of the USPS – without closing thousands of post offices, eliminating hundreds of mail processing facilities, delaying mail delivery, laying off 120,000 workers, cutting postal workers’ pay, or ending collective bargaining rights.
We are in the fight of our lives but people have voted wrong for too long and done nothing to help preserve their jobs over the years. People tell me it doesn’t matter what we do as we are doomed anyway.
Their mind is made up even before the studies are done.
All we can do is say we went down trying to keep our Eagle from drowning to keep service for the American people and jobs and benefits for the workers.
Many people will never give up until all services that help us including the Postal Service are bled and dead. Common sense is not in the makeup to improve the economy, only the rich get richer and the poor poorer.
Private companies will not deliver to the rural areas or inner cities and the elderly will not get their medications.
We will have a museum of our defunct Postal Service.
The Carpenters We’ve Only Just Begun
The Dismantling Has Begun
The Dismantling has begun with service reduction layoffs, closures and legislation.
Minds are made up before studies are even done with legislation ultraviolet as the sun.
Sharin horizons with every one for themselves, as long as it doesn’t affect me.
Talking it over with the few who care to say we went down trying.
And when the election comes we hope the better candidate will be the one so the dismantling will be the slower one.
The Dismantling Has Begun.
PAYcut for all usps employeesssssss… vote here, and sends tp ISSA…

REALLY happy ISSA spoke up, and i for two appluad him and his great ideas.
Frikkking low life clerks and mal handlers.. Scum of this Earth. NOW, Issa gets hiss Sadwndiches for free, since i am lobbying against 5 or even 6 day delivery. I wants only 3 day deliveries. And the other 2 or 3 days, would be for deliverin ,y top of the morning SAHWDSNWICHES to all of you that wil lose dare jobbs.. HAHAHHAH ,Frikking fools workers ,HAHAH..
Hey Issa. You know what Canada doesn’t do? They don’t spend as much on Political Campaigns. And what else they do? They have National Health Care which you are always against here.
Issa why don’t you take a 50 pound suck pill and choke on it. If we didn’t have to prefund for people who are not even born yet or may never get the chane work for the USPS we wouldn’t be what you call “cash strapped” asshole.
Does Issa know that a stamp for first class letters are 63 cents in Canada?
You read my mind. I recommend he be shipped to Yellowknife and out on a rural route. There he can fight the wolves and moose for his mail at his cluster box. Hope he freezes his nads off doing it.
Actually, centralized delivery is not that bad of an idea. Millions get their mail from NDCBU’s already, and it would make it safer for carriers who have to work in run down neighborhoods and after dark. My route used to be okay, but it quickly became a slum for reasons I won’t get into. It is a very dangerous place to be after dark and there are several streets I’ve been trying to get NDCBU’s for just for that reason and the fact that customers routinely steal each other’s mail and vandalize them. They don’t deserve street service period as far as I’m concerned.
Plus, in winter weather, carriers won’t have to wade through a couple feet of snow to get to boxes on houses. I know many cities have ordinances and some PO’s have requirements that walks be shoveled and clear before they can deliver mail, but here in Arkansas that is not the case, and in NW Arkansas we do actually get a fair amount of snow ourselves. It would save me a lot of time not sliding around trying to deliver mail without taking out mailboxes along the way.
Issa however can kiss my ass as far as Saturday delivery ending. It’s good to see that he and his butt buddy Donohoe lost this battle, at least in the short term.
If only Darrell would become a customer of Canada Post we would all be happier. He could replace Dudley Do-right as a Canadian hero. What about it Canucks, any takers? Eh?
