Congressmembers Release Dismal Postal Data on National, Area, and District Delivery Rates for First Class Mail

Oct 28, 2020 Today, Rep. Gerald E. Connolly, the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Government Operations, and Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney, the Chairwoman of the Committee on Oversight and Reform, released national, area, and district-level data showing continued poor on-time delivery rates of First Class mail nationwide.

“With the election less than a week away, the American people deserve to know about the continued, unacceptable delays in the delivery of First Class mail that could jeopardize their ability to have their votes counted,” said Chairwoman Maloney.  “Despite his assurances, the Postmaster General has failed to fix the problems he created and cannot be relied on for the on-time delivery of Election Mail.  At this point, Americans should either vote in person or drop their ballot in an official drop box to avoid their ballots not being delivered on time.”

“The latest Postal Service data confirms our fears that Postmaster General DeJoy’s reckless and unexamined changes undoubtedly resulted in service disruptions right before the election,” said Chairman Connolly.  “Our Committee’s investigation into this decision and its consequences must continue.”

  1. We need to re-institute the test to become a United States postal worker ….I work in the Albany New York GMF plant … The quality of work or lack there of is embarrassing…. Supervision is horrible and the workers that we have hired in the past seven years are worse…this is why we are where we are… Everybody on their phones nobody working and everybody wants to blame it on our new postmaster… Wrong…. Problems have been going on a lot longer than Since June….We have reported delayed mail to upper management and have been laughed The post office needs an enema

  2. It is obvious that mail has been sitting around for quite awhile. People who usually average 3 pcs mail a day , are now getting 10 plus pcs. Past resident names are tell me that the mailer printed and had these ready to be delivered close to a yr ago. First class mail is now being treated as BBM= junk mail. “Sweeping” errors are showing up in automated mail trays. At least a 1/4 of a tray of sorted mail belong to neighboring towns. There has been IRS checks, car plates, and just alot of wrong sorted mail , which results in bad “informed mail ” results. This is the worst errors I have seen in my 26 yrs as rural carrier. Tip-toeing around part-time carriers and not make them accountable for poor service is being done so USPS has a fleet of lower paid labor , which doesnt have to be paid a min amt of hrs per day. They are even being able to schedule vacation time !!! Unheard of! I drive around on the day after my off day and re-deliver all the parcel/mail mistakes to the correct mail boxes. I was really proud of working for USPS since 1993….until now.
