Guam – In the wake of numerous complaints from both island residents and businesses, Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo has written to the U.S. Postmaster General calling on him to correct the problems with the Postal Service’s new address recognition system now in effect on Guam.
The computerized system now in place has resulted in the return of numerous letters, bills and other documents because the system does not recognize the addresses.

Last week the Congresswoman sent a letter to Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe. She writes that the new system “seems not to recognize any address with hyphens followed by a letter or number, despite being regularly used previously”.
The new system she says “has caused many addresses that were previously used in Guam to be rejected” and returned to the sender. Even her office has experienced a large number of returned mail “using previously acceptable mailing addresses”, writes the Congresswoman. She is concerned that is causing “undue hardships on many residents and businesses”.
The postal customers on Guam need to start using the correct address. Period. They are probably just now going through something similar to the emergency 911 addressing changes that forced “Rural Route 1 Box 1” type addresses to no longer be recognized by the USPS. People simply don’t want to change. If you don’t send their mail back, they’ll never change. The USPS can’t continue to sort mail manually simply because people don’t want to use a new address. Welcome to the 20th century, Guam. You will get to the 21st in time.
Unless he’s receiving the usual kickbacks, bribes, etc. from this system, bets are the pmg doesn’t even know it exists.
