Rep. Lujan Grisham Denied Entry to Conduct Unannounced Inspection of USPS Facility
ALBUQUERQUE, NM – On September 20, 2018, after receiving numerous complaints from United States Postal Service (USPS) union representatives about mismanagement and poor working conditions at facilities and urging USPS Acting Inspector General Tammy Whitcomb to launch an investigation into the matter, Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-01) attempted to conduct an unannounced inspection of the USPS Five Points Post Office but was stopped from doing so.
Rep. Lujan Grisham filmed the following video while on-site and released the following photos and statement:
It is unacceptable that USPS prohibited me from inspecting this facility, talking to impacted employees, and evaluating the working conditions in the building. This undermines my ability to respond to the concerns I have heard from members of the community and from USPS employees about systemic understaffing and underfunding issues at USPS facilities throughout Albuquerque.
I am requesting USPS officials explain why the conditions at this location are not being improved, and why they’re interfering with my constitutional obligation to investigate issues that inform my work as a Member of Congress. Today, USPS closed the customer service area of this facility due to water leaks which impacts employee safety, employee productivity, and quality mail service for Albuquerque residents.
Addressing postal service issues is extremely important because when mail is late and workers dont have the support they need to do their job, businesses lose money, seniors have to wait for their prescriptions, and New Mexicans suffer. I thank Ken Fajardo and Dan Huerta, with the Local 380 American Postal Workers Union, for their leadership on behalf of all of the postal service employees who have dedicated their careers to this critical public service.
USPS officials later granted Rep. Lujan Grishams request to inspect the facility after she left. Due to scheduling conflicts, representatives from Rep. Lujan Grishams Congressional office will inspect the facility later today, 9/20/2018.
Postal Union: Albuquerque post offices are in shambles with bats, rats
Your not getting on the floor with those shoes.
Those shoes would be a automatic go home to a employee.
all Congress has to do is end the PFP (pay for performance?)(losing Billions!) Bonus Scam……it is just that simple. PFP has been corrupted and bastardized by the mismanaging po criminals.
If the hourly craft employees are so lazy and do so little work, why is management protecting them by denying a Congressional Representative access to the workroom floor?
The answer is obviously simple. Management is far more incompetent and lazy than the hired help.
Now she gets to see what the employees have to deal with daily; arrogant diversity hires in charge and unaccountable.
all need to be investigated for harrassment, etc. got people in management plain stupid
p.o. can not continue as is. most carriers are miserable. got worse last 12 yrs
all 5 Long Island, NY Congressional Members (Zeldin. Suozzi, King, Rice, Meeks) should make an unannounced visit between 7pm-10:30pm at the Mid-Island, NY PD&C Processing Plant, 117/119. it is the second to last of all processing plants in USA for a reason. Plant Manager & Sr MDO should be fired on the spot. (Puerto Rico is last-at least they can blame a hurricane) as a courtesy they should bring NY Sen Charles Schumer with them.
criminals are trying to hide something from the Congresswomen………like the NY Mob they will clean up the crime scene. I strongly suggest that every Congress person get a go team ready and go on an unannounced visit to your local processing plant…..you may need a psychiatrist after the visit, you will be that disturbed. Democrat or Republican…….we need a new Postmaster General.
Yes, they will find it deeply disturbing to see how little work the APWU employees actually do. The toughest thing they do is stay awake for eight hours.
