Crash involving postal truck, car kills teen in Missouri

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —A 13-year-old boy was killed when a U.S. Postal Service truck hit the car he was riding in Saturday morning, Kansas City police said.

The crash happened at 18th Street and Benton Boulevard about 8:30 a.m.

Accident investigators said it appears the driver of the mail truck ran a stop sign, hitting the car.

An adult and four children were in the car. All five were rushed to hospitals.

Police said the 13-year-old died shortly after arriving at a hospital.

Charges could be filed against the driver.

A 13-year-old boy has died following a car crash involving a U.S. Postal Service truck.

Police say the crash involved the postal truck and a second vehicle that had multiple people, including the boy, inside. It happened about 8:30 a.m. at East 18th Street and Benton Boulevard.

A witness told KCTV5 that the vehicle was westbound on 18th Street and was turning left to go south on Benton when the crash happened. The witness said the Postal Service truck was eastbound on 18th Street when they believe it ran a stop sign and hit the family’s vehicle.

The 13-year-old boy and three other children, ranging in age from six to 10, were transported to an area hospital. A 30-year-old driver of the Chrysler sustained non-life threatening injuries.

The 59-year-old driver of the postal vehicle was not injured.
