WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Nick J. Rahall (D-W.Va.) Monday announced that the Postal Service will keep the Danese Post Office open through December 2015.
“The two-year lease agreement announced today will ensure that the Post Office remains open and current postal operations will not be disrupted. Many Danese residents have contacted me in support of their post office, and I want them to know that I have conveyed those sentiments to the Postal Service and will continue to impress upon Postal officials the importance of mail delivery services to our people and communities,” said Rahall.
Rahall, who has been successful in preventing the proposed closure of post offices in the region, urged Postal officials to keep the facility open after Danese residents expressed concern about its lease termination that was supposed to take effect on December 2.
The Postal Service renewed the facility’s lease with the current landlord for two years, with the understanding that Postal officials would investigate options for a more permanent location in Danese.
“Having pressed the Postal Service to find a stopgap solution, I will continue to work for a permanent fix that fully protects the Danese Post Office,” said Rahall.
