GONE POSTAL, A DOCUMENTARY TO SAVE THE PEOPLE’S POST OFFICE: FILMMAKERS SEEK YOUR SUPPORT
In Gone Postal: The Documentary, Jay Galione weaves the personal story of his father, a postal clerk of 30 years, with stories of postal workers nationwide who are harassed, threatened, and fired for standing up for themselves and their fellow employees. After embarking on a journey to interview workers and experts across the country, it became clear there was a problematic and dysfunctional culture within the Post Office that needed to be exposed.
As Jay and fellow filmmaker Sheila Dvorak gathered these stories, the very existence of the Post Office became threatened, and a fight to Save the Post Office emerged. Through destructive acts of Congress, the government robbed the USPS of billions of dollars, forcing a crisis. Now postal managers are cutting services, privatizing, downsizing, and eliminating hundreds of thousands of jobs. It’s time to overcome the conventional story that the Internet is killing the Post Office.
Postal workers and activists are fighting back. But the only way to reclaim our historic and public communication service is to educate, motivate, and inspire the American people. That’s why we’re making Gone Postal: The Documentary. This is more than a film about what’s happening inside the Postal Service, it’s a critical part of the movement to Save The People’s Post Office. Right now we’re asking people to believe in the impact our story can have and contribute to the completion of our film. Like all independent media, we need the support of our audience. We’ve launched a fundraising campaign at Indiegogo.com where you can watch our trailer and make a donation.
With leadership from postal workers and community members, we can re-invent the Postal Service for the 21st Century. In the age of email and digital communication, why isn’t there a computer in every post office available to people? The Constitution mandates the Post Office to “bind the nation together,” and there are opportunities to innovate and expand services, making the Post Office a more vital institution that can serve everyone. Our Postal Service is the cheapest and most reliable in the world. We must defend what’s ours before it’s gone.
