A Lee County man has been indicted on federal charges related to tampering with hundreds of articles of mail.
The former United States Postal Service employee, indentified in court records as Michael Marquez, appeared in court last week and was released on his own recognizance. Prosecutors allege he “destroyed, detained, and delayed” more than 400 pieces of first class mail on at least two occasions in February.
A spokesperson for the USPS said Marquez, 27, was no longer employed with the agency.
WINK News attempted to reach Marquez, but could not locate him at several addresses listed under his name. Marquez’s attorney declined to comment when reached by phone on Tuesday.

According to the arrest report, store employees said Klink, originally from New York, would often grab a paper from the stand while dropping off the mail – then leave the store without paying for the paper.
Employees informed a supervisor, who kept an eye on Klink on Tuesday morning.
Deputies said the supervisor saw Klink snag a newspaper without paying for it. The authorities were called and Klink was arrested for retail theft. His bond was $150.
The cost of a daily copy of the New York Post: $1.89.
