Former contract mail carrier admits to mail theft

mailtheftAn Augusta, ME woman pleaded guilty Thursday in federal court in Bangor to a charge of stealing mail.

Court records show Julie K. Meek, 56, took more than a dozen envelopes containing checks, cash and gift cards while she was a contract route carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Meek used them at businesses in Orono, including a gas station and a restaurant.

She could be sentenced to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Read More
