Former Texas House GOP candidate blames USPS for campaign mailer sent in error

official-election-mail-logo-redIt appears each time a GOP candidate experiences a problem with campaign mailer(s) USPS and its employees get blamed. Over the years there has been numerous news articles which clearly illustrate how many GOPers are under the mistaken belief that most Postal Workers are Democrats –and will risk their job/livelihood tampering with political mail. Unfortunately, there is nothing in my view that can be said or done to convince GOPers to think otherwise.

Here is an small example of the most recent “blame USPS”…

Former Texas House candidate Chart Westcott says campaign mailer was sent in error

The campaign may be over for Texas House hopeful Chart Westcott, but voters received one more piece of mail.

Westcott, a private equity partner, failed in a bid for the Republican nomination in House District 108. His bruising fight with Morgan Meyer flooded mailboxes with fliers, divided local power brokers and cost the two candidates more than $2 million combined.

Meyer crushed Westcott in the May runoff with nearly 75 percent of the vote.

But last week, some voters received a puzzling letter from former Dallas Cowboy and honorary campaign chairman Troy Aikman. The letter asked them to support Westcott and enclosed a prepaid postcard offering ways to back the campaign, such as posting a yard sign, volunteering on election day or donating money

Some voters emailed the Dallas Morning News to ask if Westcott planned to run as a write-in candidate.

Westcott said the letter was sent by mistake. He said it’s probably a mail house or postal service error. The campaign “completely shutdown” after the runoff, he said, and he will return any checks that voters send.
