Georgia: Postal Contract driver in critical condition after being shot and robbed

Postal contract driver shot and robbed after dark in Conley, Georgia:

Conley, GA — U.S. Postal inspectors said late Saturday afternoon that they had recovered a USPS truck stolen during the shooting and robbery of a postal truck driver.

The crime happened Friday night sometime between 7:15 and 7:45.

U.S. Postal spokesperson Yulanda Burns said the driver is in critical condition.

According to Burns, someone went into a restricted area of the Conley Post Office, shot the driver then stole the truck.

U.S. Postal Inspectors canvassed the area looking for the truck and would only say it was found abandoned somewhere in Metro Atlanta. Investigators are now processing it for possible evidence. They would not say what if anything was still inside the truck.

  1. Sorry everyone my son was robbed last Friday at gunpoint—-been with ups for 6 years– what did he get– changed his route at Christmas with 400 new stops–

  2. I also know this fellow driver. He was where he was supposed to be, when he was there.I have picked up and hauled into this post office myself. Since the major truck stops moved out of the area, there isnot much there other than homeless people and a few businesses.I wish the local police could escort the drivers in to areas like this.Alot of you in the above comments have jumped WAy out to what is and what isn’t and why and who.If you don’t know what happened, then making something up isn’t going to really help the situation any.Pray for this driver.Troy is just a good ole GUY!

  3. The driver’s name is Troy, he is by far one of nicest person’s I have ever encounter within the post office manager or craft. Please pray for this young man, every once in a while life throws us a gift, and Troy is certainly that.

  4. @Omni. Keep touting the mgmt lies and bs, line for line.

That makes you either in mgmt, in which case, your opinion is worthless, since lies is all they know how to do, or a even worse, a kiss ass craft worker.

And since I hate all mgmt, and deservedly so, a Very Merry Fuck You.

  5. Latest bulletin from TSP – no other driver in the US ever got assaulted. Ever. Tell that to the Teamsters Union, numbnuts. What color is the sky on the planet you live on TSP? Oh I forgot, all the biased opinions you dream up in your diseased little mind are always gospel truth. Idiot wind. Must be nice living in a delusionary world. Zipperhead.

Same old message, you hate management, blah blah blah. Pathetic. Nothing of value to say. Opinions are like assholes – everyone’s got one, and you are one.

  6. No worries Shep.

    He’s obviously a mgmt. drone.

Even uses the same phrases, excuses, etc.

  7. This Omni person is an idiot! I know the driver and he was doing his darn job. He’s a contract driver and picks up mail at Crown Rd and delivers to the Conley P.O. The P.O. Is spending all this money on in- house security systems, trying to keep us locked in like prisoners, but what about keeping the outsiders out, meaning LOCK THE DAMN GATES! I can remember when Postal Police escorted the trucks with registered mail, why did that stop! They just don’t care about employees anymore. I guess it’s cheaper to replace us with casuals!

  8. @Omni.

ROFL ! Oh man, you show your ignorance for all to see with every statement.

-FedEx and UPS drivers don’t get assaulted because they don’t deliver to every address. See them driving down the street, who knows where they’ll stop.
Again, if you were/had been a carrier, you’d know this. But since you never were……

Sorry the truth bothers you so much, to warrant your latest diatribe of psycho-babble.

I don’t hate my job at all moron. In fact, I love it.

I hate postal mgmt. is all. And they deserve every bit of it.

Here’s hoping your Xmas sucks, 204b breath.

  9. @ All Your TSP

You state “the number of assaults has gone up dramatically”. Where is your data or evidence to back this up? Pure emotional opinion, just like the rest of your BS stuff. So much for telling me to get the facts. In your little bubble world, FeDXEX and USP drivers never get assaulted or robbed, armored cars never get attacked, banks and P.O.s never get robbed, but if they did, it would all be management’s fault. I am tired of all the sensationlism and emotional blame game. I get it, you hate management and USPS. If you are so miserable, why don’t you quit and get a job you like? No one is forcing you to stay.

If you read my entry, I am AGAINST delivery in the dark and yes, I have delivered in the dark. Yes, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out if a carrier hits the street late, he will be returning late. Can 80% of the mail be made available at 6:30am? Is that real?

In the future, why don’t you just cut and paste, “I hate management, I hate the USPS, blah, blah,” and save folks the trouble of reading your purely opinionated nonsense. You have nothing original to offer.

  10. It was probably a scab “postal fleet driver” who is taking our jobs, pond scum. Don’t want to see people get hurt but they are taking postal jobs. Carriers up here in Mn work in the dark every winter as it gets dark by 5pm

  11. It was probably a scab “postal fleet driver” who is taking our jobs, pond scum. Don’t want to see people get hurt but they are taking postal jobs. Carriers up here in Mn work in the dark every winter as it gets dark by 5pn.

  12. this wasn’t a carrier morons, it was a contract driver and that was probably his normal time. Nothing to do with carriers

  13. Mgmt. could care less!!But they would be all
over the carrier if he or she missed the msp scan.
Just want the numbers. Nothing else matters!!!!!!!!

  14. It’s amazing that when the USPS had backing issues they said no more backing!
When the USPS has employees getting robbed, raped and shot at night nothing
    changes. AMAZING

  15. Omni, you are so clueless as to defy all logic. Obviously, you’re either in mgmt, or a wannabe.

    – the numbers of assaults have increased dramatically. In other words, the tired old mgmt. line of assaults also have happened in daylight is invalid (surprise).

    – carriers have been working late/in the dark since before summer, and they’re a daily occurrence, not a now and then occurrence as it used to be. If you were a carrier, you’d know this.
In other words, the tired old mgmt. line of the assaults are because of xmas, daylight savings time, etc. are invalid.

    – why is the above happening ? Because of postal mgmt. induced plant closures, which cause the mail to arrive at offices later, which bring about a postal mgmt. induced later start times for carriers.
Guess what happens if carriers start later ? They end later………

I’d suggest you follow your own advice about getting the facts.

But then being in mgmt., lies and not knowing what you’re talking about is normal.

    Mgmt. is 100% responsible.

    Period.

  16. Okay, time to set the record straight and cut out the melodrama. Carrier is out late, in the dark and is murdered. Yes its horrible despicable act, no question and we all grieve for his family. The fact is though, that carriers have also been assaulted, robbed, and raped even in broad daylight. Now comes the Union, seeing a chance to jump on this and blow up the horrors of carriers being out after dark to Congress and the public. The fact is, the carriers in AK deliver in the dark at least 3 mos out of the year, and their District safety record is no worse than others. Personally, I think having carriers out after dark in the rest of the country is just plain stupid and obviously, you can’t see as well. But w/ day light savings time shift ( another stupid idea) and holiday volumes, it’s going to happen. If its a chronic staffing shortage where they are burning out good people then yes, hire some people and stop the nonsense.

For Scott to claim that Donahoe is responsible for every crime committed is just melodramatic nonsense. It’s a rotten, mean world out there, with a lot of desperate and crazy people. How can someone anticipate when a crime is going to be committed? It happens day and night, so I don’t buy the blame game. Talk to a Postal Inspector about external crimes, and get the facts.

  17. Surely, no one that works for the post office expects management to “relent”. They do not give a a damn about anyone except themselves. They go to class for that. Whoever said that must have been dreaming or just wishful thinking.

  18. The article doesn’t state whether the time of day this truck was operating was normal – it sounds like a late dispatch truck perhaps. However, even dispatch trucks could be out earlier too if they weren’t forced to wait on carriers also out well after dark in equally dangerous situations. Security at the post offices is obviously lax. Our office had some lunatic hanging around near the loading dock staring indoors until a supervisor chased them off. If this is the way things are going, security gates should be installed and manned full time where there are enough functions going on to warrant it, i.e., offices with rural/city carriers and dispatch trucks. We certainly hope the driver survives without serious complications because of this brutal attack.
The real question of all carriers is when will management finally relent and adjust our hours? They can’t claim that any of the most recent crimes were isolated freak incidents now. Even their own supervisor committed a robbery at a station in Harlem. Donohoe, you’re partially responsible for every crime that’s committed, and you damn well better be listening now because employees will not suffer silently when their brethren are killed, robbed and critically injured.
