November 8, 2014 – COVINGTON, GA — A U.S. Postal Service employee reported that he was robbed while delivering mail Thursday morning in a south Newton County neighborhood.
The mail carrier contacted the Newton County Sheriff’s Office just before 11 a.m. and said he was delivering mail on his route when he stopped at a house on Sunflower Lane, which is near Ga. Highway 162 and Ga. Highway 81. He went to the back of his mail truck to retrieve a package for that address, and when he returned to the driver’s side, a black male wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt was standing there pointing a gun at him, said NCSO Sgt. Cortney Morrison.
“The suspect demanded money from the victim’s wallet and told him he had 4 seconds to give it to him,” Morrison said.
The man took the money and threw the wallet on the ground.
