The U.S. Postal Service, one of the few government agencies explicitly authorized by the U.S. Constitution, has seen better days. After a plan by the post office to end most Saturday mail delivery, a proposed federal budget mandated six-day delivery, despite post office officials’ contention that the independent federal agency needs to trim costs. With steadily declining revenue, the specter of a world
without the U.S. Postal Service becomes more plausible each year. http://www.numbersleuth.org/trends/usps/

Got to show how great we are !!! That’s it!!!
Amen Scott we know the truth too but congress is drowning us on purpose. We cant be a government agency and a private agency altogether. Read our Name though Service and its only up to the American people and us workers to keep the post office alive.
A World Without the Post Office….Only if FED-X and UPS can deliver after a hurricane. They can’t, but the U.S. Postal Service will.
A World Without the Post Office…..Only if FED-X and UPS can deliver after a major snowstorm. They can’t, but the U.S. Postal Service will.
A World Without the Post Office…..Only if terrorism never happens again. After 9-11, the USPS delivered the mail. FED-X and UPS did not!
A World Without the Post Office…..when the U.S. Postal Service contracts out to EMERY and they can’t do the job. The USPS had to break the contract and reclaim the prority mail.
A World Without the Post Office….Only in a Perfect World….and its not!
Without the post office the economy would sink into the great depression as it is 13% of the gdp with all who depend on the post office. These fools that say privatize it don’t have a clue what they are saying. The post office is funding the wars overseas you morons as the post office is the cash cow for congress and always has been. You can’t privatize it as congress would not have any money to wage wars abroad. Oh by the way if we don’t fight it over their it will be fought over here take your pick. Social security is the other cash cow and that is why it will never be privatized as the money is spent as it comes in. Ignorance is rampant on this website as these privateers need to move on to something else as their words will never make it happen as the post office is congresses best friend and they are behind the crisis as they are thinking of ways they can grow their cash cow.
Well said Scott. As a 28yr veteran letter carrier myself I’d like to point out that the Post Office contributes to the nations economy to the tune of over half a million well paid jobs. If we can get congress to loosen its strangle hold on us and let us function as we have over the last four decades by letting us raise postage rates fairly and end the 5.5 billion dollar a year pre funding mandate we can continue to provide good middle class jobs well into the future and don’t forget all revenue the USPS generates above cost goes to the treasury. Pretty good deal all around I think.
Wow!! You have all the answers! Just get my incentive package ready and it’s bye bye sinking ship
The world without Post Office? Not a big deal, let the private sector handle it.
PLAUSIBLE ? What ‘issa’ crock ? Same wishy washy Congress no matter 1974 or 2013 . Get off it and put it back to monopoly operation !
