The House is expected to vote Friday, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says there’s no ‘urgency’ for the Senate to act.
WASHINGTON — A new coronavirus aid package released by House Democrats includes $25 billion for the cash-strapped U.S. Postal Service, which is expected to run out of money by the end of September without additional support from Congress because it’s losing so much revenue during the pandemic.
The bill released Tuesday also would repeal several restrictions on a $10 billion line of credit for the Postal Service authorized in a previous economic rescue law.
The House is expected to vote on the package as soon as Friday, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said there is no “urgency” for the Republican-controlled Senate to act.
President Trump has publicly threatened to block the $10 billion loan unless the Postal Service significantly raises rates for packages delivered for Amazon and other big shippers. Trump has complained for years that the Postal Service was being exploited by Amazon and other shippers, but Democrats say his real target is Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, who owns The Washington Post. Trump has feuded with what he’s termed the “Amazon Washington Post” and other news organizations that have reported unfavorable developments during his campaign and presidency.
Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., said Trump’s refusal to approve the loan without huge rate hikes was misguided.
“He is willing to sacrifice the U.S. Postal Service and its 630,000 employees because of petty vindictiveness and personal retaliation against Jeff Bezos,’’ Connolly said of Trump. “That would be a tragic outcome.”

As a custodian who works at the Las vegas P&DC I can tell President Trump we need this bailout! For the record a large number of postal workers throughout the country support President Trump; however he needs to show us his support in signing off on this 25 Billion dollar package that we so desperately need! We support you Mr President now it’s your turn to support us!
I just read in the Washington Post ( not fake news, fake president) that the Secret Service signed a contract to pay $1790,000 for golf carts at our “great ” leaders golf course in N.J.. and an article said the sucker tax payers paid $970,000 to pay Secret Service agents hotel bills while staying at his hotels. Mr. Wonderful has millions to waste, not one cent available to spend! So he wants the postal service to go under, while his friends ride around on golf carts that the tax payer shouldn’t be forced to pay for. Why not use the golf carts to get around the “big beautiful wall” that he wants painted at a cost of $150 million.
Hello my name is Aspen. I am trying to get ahold of all of my mail since my p.o. box was shut down. Please let me know how I can get it all.
Our “wonderful” leader has 150 million to paint his “big beautiful” wall black, has 12.1 million to give to the Danish island of Greenland, $650.00 for hotel bills for the Secret Service agents that guard him on his frequent trips, and spends time accusing people like Joe Scarborough of murder, however, he doesn’t want to spend any tax dollars to help a Federal agency. I hope the Postal employees that voted for him enjoy receiving a shiv in their back, the shiv they bought and paid for!
How does Donny think he can raise rates on certain companies but not all. He needs to look at reality.
Pat and Megan extended discounts and additional services to some companies (Amazon) and not others. See if the Post Office will deliver a package you send on a Sunday.
