Is USPS hurting Its “Brand” by opening Village Post Office inside liquor store

On e PostalReporter.com reader comments on VPO inside liquor store:

“The hypocrisy of USPS is amazing.  Would FedEx or UPS put their contract facilities in liquor stores?  What’s next?  Marijuana stores where it is legal?  The USPS brand is going downhill.liquor

The Postal Service Standards of Conduct, ELM 665.26, says “employees must not have or bring any container of beer, wine, or other intoxicating beverage into any Postal Service facility or premises, whether or not the container has been opened. Employees found to be violating this policy may be subject to disciplinary action.”  Is there an exception for postal contract facilities?”

Village post office opens inside liquor store

Vicco, Ky. (WYMT)– The eagle representing the United States Postal Service has landed at a Vicco liquor store.

“Post offices close kind of early in the day, actually so we’d be able to sell stamps,” said Sharon Taylor, manager at Kwik Six Liquor.

In addition to stamps, the village post office also ships flat-rate boxes.

The stores that house these village post offices do not make much money from the post office location itself, but do hope to benefit from the additional foot traffic.

  1. It is hard to admit, but there are few institutions more American than the liquor store. Washington had a still, Madison (allegedly) drank a pint before breakfast, Franklin Pierce was a veteran of many a bottle. Churchill was half American, and he drank from morning until bed time.

When the English got here, the first thing they did was build a court house, the Germans a Church, the Scots-Irish a still…. [I’m a Scots-Irish descendant.]

Depite our present day conspicuous piety, if the truth be known, a few of us might have seen the inside of a liquor store or two in our lives. But to keep up appearances, we must now scorn anyone or any enterprise (USPS) who now associates with those “whiskey besotted dregs of humanity.” We cannot bring shame upon our “brand.”

  2. Or how ’bout placing village POs in brothels? Like that Bunny Ranch in Nevada. They charge extra if they lick the stamp for u.

  3. So if that is the case then would we be able to mail liguor through the postal service? I thought we were “looking into that”.

  4. The biggest hurt on the USPS brand is it’s own mgmt.

Most of them spend their lunch two hours in a bar, so this just saves them time.
