Is USPS suspending plant consolidations/closures?

Update: Several Postal Employees respond to “rumor” on USPS plant consolidation

**As stated it hasn’t been confirmed, but rumor is that Mid-Florida which was scheduled to close in July 26th is also on hold from closing now. There has been a lot of question though about the fact that they still didn’t have a plan of where the mail was going since Orlando P&DC doesn’t have room to add many machines.

**I am at the Norfolk P & DC, Norfolk, VA and we were told yesterday that our consolidation is suspended until April 2016. I got the date from a contact in another place high up in our Union (Mail Handler).

**Orlando P&DC employees were told this morning that taking the rest of Mid Florida P&DC’s mail would not happen until next April now.

**weve been told at rocky mount that all our ops except dps is going to Raleigh..there are only 2 clerk openings and we have 62 clerks.so they said every 3 months they will look and see how many openings they have so they can deduct from us.that is unless union gives in to 50 mile limit.

**I guess this not the complete list as our facility which is North bay DDC,CA and is so far planned to close on 7/25/15

**Another year, another “delay”. Let’s look at some facts. Here in Scranton ,Pa. and across the country in 2012, the decision was made to proceed with the “Network Rationalization Plan” due to the dire financial crisis, plummeting mail volumes, excess plants, employees and the need to right size the workforce and match workforce to workload and reduce the footprint of the Postal Service. That’s the P.R. That was 3 years ago and all the USPS has been doing is jerking the workers around, essentially holding an axe over the heads of all of us who have families and lives while causing nothing but stress due to another incompetent plan. 3 years of so-called delays is further evidence there is no crisis. Delays in mail and long wait times in line nationwide show not only the consolidations and post office closings are failing miserably and apparently nothing more than a con game, but so is the 24-hour clock and load leveling. When the so-called professional Postal executives did their studies and announced the business cases existed for consolidations, were they wrong, did they lie, or both ? In Scranton on November 22, 2011 at the dog & pony show called a public meeting, Linda Marie Malone, who’s at Postal HQ now by the way, was one of the executives who said no decision has been made yet. When the AMP came out, it was signed off and approved on Nov. 3rd, 18 days earlier. The element of deception as usual. It’s time for the USPS to do their business or get off the pot. If they will still maintain a crisis exists, move forward. If not, forget the delays and CANCEL any remaining proposed consolidations, not to be mentioned for at least 5-7 yrs. This past Saturday night we had to run 45 ERMC’S of Harrisburg mail .Why? Will the volume show up anywhere? I say no. Remember plummeting mail volume! If the new PMG Brennan is not just another version of her mentor, Patrick R. Donahoe, and expects people to believe in the credibility and validity of her statements, , then it’s time for her to CANCEL, not delay, the remaining consolidations listed.

PostalReporter received an unverified “rumor” that USPS has placed a nationwide hold on plant closures until April 2016. Did any other Postal Worker get this news? As reported earlier, Senator Tom Carper is holding a roundtable today on rural postal issues. If the rumor is true it may be reported during this meeting. We will see…Remember this is only a rumor.

There are not a lot of postal plants from the initial list to consolidate/close. Here are a few plants still scheduled to close/consolidate as of May 15, 2015:

  1. While everything seems to be on hold in the sfd. mo plant to kc consolidation, USPS are plunging forward in the ao s for realignment of truck runs, dispatch times, etc. So while Sfd. is not closed we believe the mail or some of it is bypassing Sfd to KC. Thus giving us 2 runs of letter dps and older mail some overnight & some 2-4 days in our local offices.

  2. Canceling the remaining sites to be consolidated is a great idea, but a better idea is to cancel not only the remaining sites but to also cancel the consolidation of sites already consolidated!

  3. Ive always thought Mid-Florida should never close. That is one awesome building over there with access to major transportation routes, easy access & airport, good, safe part of town.

  6. All we’ve been hearing are rumors for the last three-and-a-half years. Kind of hard to base life decisions on rumors. The list is still out there and that’s what you have to believe if and until an ‘official’ announcement is made. Of course, when they reinitiated Phase 2 only 6 months after fatboy Donahoe announced a 2-year hold, you have to ask ‘what’s official’?

I just transferred to Mobile from Gulfport as an ET job became available there. My commute is now about 42 minutes as-opposed-to 32. It’s absolutely awful in Mobile. It’s so bad that I tried to go back to Gulfport, but was told that the remaining ET position left after my departure had been abolished and that I couldn’t transfer back as Gulfport was ‘restricted’ due to being on the Network Rationalization Consolidations 2015 list.

If other plants are like Mobile, I figure they’ll send the outgoing from 394/395 (Hattiesburg/Gulfport) as scheduled, but will delay the DPS until after the holidays. Mobile will probably just be able to handle the outgoing, but will implode within a month after getting the DPS mail, imo.

A delay I’ll accept gracefully. Any cancellations will lead to a grievance as I would’ve never left Gulfport had it not been on the list…

  7. Interesting. Maybe it’s a computer glitch. I apologize for my last post, but it didn’t show up when I logged on. Anyway, let’s look at the overall picture that shows the plans for the USPS are failing.

  8. I have to ask what happened to my post from earlier? Simple statements of fact and legitimate questions are not allowed? It’s been 3 years since the announcement to proceed with consolidations. and the workers are still being jerked around. The administrators have my e-mail. Contact me with a reason why this Network Plan cannot be questioned.
