May 7, 2014 -Consideration by a House Committee of a new postal bill sponsored by Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) , which was scheduled for May 7, has been postponed indefinitely. “We must remain vigilant,” said APWU President Mark Dimondstein. “The bill proposed by Rep. Issa is extremely detrimental to the Postal Service, to postal workers and to the people of the country.” For more information about the bill, click here.
Issa to Oversight Dems: Do You Support President Obama’s Postal Reforms?
WASHINGTON – Yesterday, House Oversight and Government Reform Chairman Darrell Issa, R-Calif., sent a letter to Democrat members of the Committee asking if they support President Obama’s postal reform provisions laid out in The President’s Budget for Fiscal Year 2015 and scheduled for Committee mark up this afternoon. The Chairman has not yet heard from the Democrats on the Committee and has decided to postpone the Committee’s mark up scheduled for this afternoon.
The letter states: “At the Committee’s April 8, 2014, hearing when the Office of Management and Budget testified in support of President Obama’s plan, I indicated a willingness to move forward with that plan as a compromise effort. This new proposal contains some provisions I do not support, but it is a compromise I could accept, to help us enact necessary bipartisan reforms to save the Postal Service. These include a transition to five-day mail delivery that has been included in bipartisan Senate legislation.”
Chairman Issa continues in the letter: “Shortly after the April 8, 2014 hearing, my staff consulted with Democratic committee staff about a proposal that would have largely implemented the President’s reforms. Notably, however, this initial offer did not include the President’s requested exigent rate increase, and it did include a small number of alterations that I believed would have strong bipartisan support, as well as the support of the Administration. The most significant of these changes would have been to require the Postal Service to continue to deliver packages on Saturday for at least 5 years and to mandate that there could never be more than 2 consecutive days without mail delivery as a result of the change to a 5-day delivery schedule.”
“In response to concerns offered by Democratic committee staff, however, I subsequently revised the proposal to eliminate any variations at all with the President’s budget. This revised language is what I intend to consider tomorrow. I believe it is a faithful representation of the President’s proposal.”
“Neither during the April 8, 2014, hearing nor since, however, have I received an indication that any Democratic members of the Committee would support the President’s proposal. I am deeply concerned that special interest groups are attempting to sabotage support for the President’s proposal, even amongst his own party, and push the Postal Service closer to a taxpayer-funded bailout.”
Let’s rehash that again.

Please pass the CHEEZ-IT.
Our business model no longer supports the sick, lame and lazy. People need our services but we need to deal with the fact that we could do the job without trying to create/keep jobs for people who just want to sit on there can all day (mgmt & craft). I say stop creating poorly written, crippling, illconceived contracts and let’s focus on a proven concept. Provide customers with a valued product and service. Anyone remember companies like tg&y, venture, TWA or dial up internet. We’re delivering mail in 1988 vehicles or older. You think Amazon might notice that. Come on! Get smart!
So now we don’t support the President’s budget proposal??
But all of those proposals were the cost savings, along with military cuts, he was going use to offset the cost of all the socialism he was giving to the entitled.
Oh, and BTW, after the Obama administration sold out the USPS unions in his new budget, the USPS bought up a bunch of ammunition. HMMMMMM….useful idiots!
These clowns in Washington have redefined the art pedantic. It’s become a minor league feeding system to becoming a lobbyist or consultant all to line their greedy little pockets.
“I am deeply concerned that special interest groups are attempting to sabotage support for the President’s proposal, even amongst his own party, and push the Postal Service closer to a taxpayer-funded bailout.”
A taxpayer funded bailout? Really Mr. Issa? Since 2006 we’ve all heard the moronic ideas about how to save the USPS. The one and ONLY fix to this IS re-calculate the proper payments for the FRHB and to give us back the overpayment monies that idiots like you have stolen from the USPS and the American people!! You need to come back to planet earth, and the reality that we, the USPS DO NOT RELY ON taxpayer $$$. Too many of you in office that are allegedly knowledgeable, haven’t a clue or do you? The USPS has been a cash cow before and here we are again!! The American people are not stupid. And BTW, what have you really accomplished in your term of office? Numbers don’t show too much. Reality has it that you and all the lame asses in office are nothing more than thieves period!!
ISSA good move Senator !
Issa says: “I am deeply concerned that special interest groups are attempting to … push the Postal Service closer to a taxpayer-funded bailout.”
What a deceptively worded load of crap. Closer to? Taxpayer-funded? Bailout? Ambiguous wording and EMOTIONAL TRIGGER WORDS. He doesn’t SAY Dems want a taxpayer funded bailout (which is a lie)- but he implies it so strongly, that he may just as well have said it.
Notice how he saves that steaming pile for last, so it sticks with the reader? What a freaking con artist!
The whole time he’s saying that, he knows it’s the other way around: the USPS has grossly overpaid retirement funding.
By the way, his second-largest private campaign contributor is UPS. Imagine that.
What Issa has done is introduce the President’s plan for the post office, line by line. It is the 4th time the President has offerred it. How can it be called Issa’s bill if it was written by the President? yes I am a mailman. Common sense tells anybody that actually knows anything about the post office that most carriers are using their own annual leave many days because there isn’t enough mail for them to get more than 7 hours work, and those are 7 relaxed hours. The union is blocking route inspections because in our office of 27 city routes, 3 would be eliminated. The first 20 years of my career I ran like a madman to stay under 10 hours of work, the last 6 are a joke. 5 days would make sense and spreading the volume over 5 days instead of 6 would give us enough to do for at least 8 hours. We are getting paid whether we work or not.
What? another attempt at a Postal Bill and absolutely nothing happened?? wow- that is surprising considering nothing has happened in the last few years with any of it either…. the Post Office isn’t held liable for the pre funding payments it missed so why are we even bothering with this? just continue to skip the payments and move forward…… same BS…. another day
HEY jIM! 5 DAY DELIVERY doesn’t mean no Saturday mail. See no more than 2 days withut delivering mail! Could be Tue-Fri but not Sat with Mon holiday!
Eliminate jim.
Special interests? Surely not!! That would imply bribing Congressmen or Congressmen threatening lobby groups with unfavorable legislation if they don’t pony up, something D.C. has becoming much more adept at rather than wait for a bag of cash to materialize out of nowhere. For Issa to bitch about special interests is like a rap star complaining there’s too many drugs and naked women hanging around him.
Bi-partisan? That’s D.C. code for “the same corporation spread the bread to both sides equally”. With mid-terms coming up don’t expect much on reform. The lawmakers will all be out in their states and districts talking about how wonderful they are, all they accomplished, or would have had it not been for the other side, and how responsible they are to voters. If you buy and believe this horseshit, God help you.
Issa toilet is plugged again? He slipped in it?
Another PMG -slips trips and falls- standup coming our way.
eliminate saturday mail !!!! delivery parcels on saturdays only
Dear Union Brothers/Sisters… Please get out and vote in the May primary and of course in November. Get your parents, family, friends and everyone that you love and care about and their future. Every Republican in the House and Senate voted NO on the minimum wage bill.. Rep. Ryan’s bill which passed the House is to cut social security, Medicare, Medicaid, repeal the ACA, cut food stamps, education, mass transit, bridge and road projects.. And with all those cuts are for the super rich so they can pay less taxes and keep more of their money. The KOCH brothers are spending billions to get their agenda through and are supporting the politicians campaigns that basically do what the say. We no longer live in a Democracy!! Money buys elections and politicians. If you want the Post Office privatized and your livelihood to vanish, then vote Republican.. But if you want to continue the great pay, pension, benefits, etc and have your kids to go to college, have clean Air and Water and to enjoy life. Then please please vote Democrats this primary and in November!!!!! The Republicans did nothing the last 3 years. Obstructed our economy, our nation( closed the government down ) our President.. Open your eyes brothers and sisters. Issa is a EVIL man and is spending millions on these witch hut special committees and hearings.. Thank you!!!!
Imagine that! Come on, quit already! Getting tired of the same crap!
The Demos know that any legislation coming from that scumbag car thief will be bad legislation.
The only special interest groups attempting to be
sabatore’s would be in alliance with Mr. Issa. His
propensity to use smoke and mirrors deflecting blame
from himself and his party has been well documented.
The president’s plan needs to be tweaked and the Dems
are very cognizant of that, therefore not overly receptive.
There will never be a bill without some give and take
as incredulous as that is for some. The unions are doing
what they are suppose to do fighting to protect jobs.
Senators are protesting rural station closings and the
sale of postal buildings, some historic. The ripple effect
which concerns the people who live in these area’s. This
is why the can keeps getting kicked down the road. There
comes a time when the bartering process has to begin with
clear acceptance that the Postmaster General will be granted
important issues that he feels will alleviate the financial
burden of the Post Office and the Postal employee’s will
be granted the securities of their jobs, pay, health benefits,
and workman’s compensation for our injured. This we should
never waiver on.
