July 1, 2015 – Boosters want a new look for Tieton’s nondescript post office, and they already know a straightforward renovation simply won’t do.

They want to create a mosaic facade of 41,500 pieces of hand-cut glass tile that resembles a gigantic postage stamp, and they’re hoping a month long Kickstarter campaign will raise the $48,000 needed. Boosters want to create something that celebrates the United States Postal Service, the local people, regional trade, and the spirit of hope and optimism of an audacious idea

The fundraising campaign to create “the coolest post office in America” officially launched at 6 a.m. Wednesday..

“To people who live in small towns, post offices are vital. You’ve got to have a good post office,” said Ed Marquand, partner and founder of Mighty Tieton, an incubator for artisan and design-related light manufacturing businesses.

“It’s so distressing seeing these post offices close,” Marquand added. “Part of our motivation was to shine a light on … this piece of our heritage that keeps getting eroded away.”

Thus, the Tieton Stamp Mosaic Project — part of the Tieton Mosaic Project, inspired by New York City’s historic subway signage — will not only transform the post office facade but honor small-town post offices everywhere.

Donations will fund building prep work, purchase of colored sheet glass from Bullseye Glass in Portland.

  2. sorry to burst your bubble…….but Democrat Sen Diane Feinstein and her husband Richard Blum, with their no bid postal real estate contract……have that postal building marked for sale……………better for you fanooks to wander down the street and hang out at Staples until the sale goes into contract. Feinstein/Blum have made a cool 1 billion dollars so far…………but staples is your enemy-got it now. listen to your union talking points and keep watching the shadows on the wall. apwu will get their cut. remember demonrat good, rethuglican bad.
