Update From USPS: California quake damages four Post Offices
On Aug. 23, the California Bay Valley area was hit by a 6.1 earthquake. As a result, retail and delivery services have been impacted in the areas of Napa and Vallejo, CA. Delivery service for impacted areas will continue as all operations are being moved to the Springstown Station in Vallejo. PO Box operations for the Napa area have been moved to the Post Office back parking lot. Postal Inspectors are on hand to provide security.
The following offices have been impacted:
In Vallejo, Station A, located at 1015 Amador Street, 94590, and the Main Office, at 485 Santa Clara Street, 94590, customers and PO Box customers will be served at the Springstown Post Office, located at 100 Admiral Callaghan LN, Vallejo, CA, 94591. Full retail operations are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. PO Box customers must provide photo ID to pick up their mail.
In Napa, Napa-Franklin Post Office, 1351 2nd Street, 94559, customers and PO Box customers will be served at the Wine Valley Post Office, located at 820 Randolph Street, Napa, CA, 94559. The hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. PO Box customers must provide photo ID.”
The earthquake is the largest in the Bay Area since the magnitude 6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake of 1989.
The earthquake rocked the San Francisco-Oakland area, sent scores of people to hospitals, ignited fires, damaged multiple historic buildings and knocked out power to tens of thousands in California’s wine country on Sunday.
The magnitude-6.1 earthquake struck at 3:20 a.m. about 10 kilometres from the city of Napa ruptured water mains and gas lines, left adults and children injured, upended bottles and casks at some of Napa Valley’s famed wineries and sent residents running out of their homes in the darkness.
The earthquake also damaged areas of Vallejo, Calif. Other cities nearby are Angwin, Yountville, American Canyon and more.
PR note: I will update this post when more information is released on the condition of other post offices and postal operations in the area. Napa is not the only city affected by the earthquake.
Damn Postal bosses to blame!
