Employee tips continue to help USPS recover Mail Transport Equipment MTE located outside the postal network.Elmira, NY, Letter Carrier Gina Ortiz recently saw mail trays being removed from an abandoned building that was on her route. She was told the MTE was headed for a recycling center. Dumpsters on the abandoned site also were filled with MTE.Ortiz reported her discovery to her Supervisor Kristie Beam, who contacted the Postal Inspection Service.Inspectors Marin Arthur and Chris Buszka seized 4,600 USPS pallets, tubs, trays, and hampers — worth more than $25,000.USPS encourages employees to report misused MTE to their supervisor, local Physical Security Specialist or a Postal Inspector. Employees also can email their findings to HQMTE@usps.gov or call the MTE hotline 866-330-3404.
