City letter carriers will receive a 1 percent general wage increase this month. The paycheck boost, which will take effect Nov. 14, is the third under the terms of the 2011-2016 National Agreement between NALC and the USPS finalized by arbitrator Shyam Das (the “Das award”). It is the last of three general wage increases in the National Agreement.
In addition to this 1 percent increase, city carrier assistants (CCAs) will receive an additional 1.5 percent increase.
Under the terms of the National Agreement, all letter carriers received a 1 percent general wage increase in November of 2013 and a 1.5 percent increase in November of last year. The contract also provided for variable cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs) for career carriers based on changes in the Consumer Price Index and fixed additional raises for CCAs.
Like past general wage increases, these will be calculated from the pay rate at the start of the contract—the
wage increase percentage multiplied by the pay rate at the beginning of the current National Agreement,
before any COLAs or wage increases are included—and added to current pay rates.
“General wage increases and COLAs are some of the many benefits that all letter carriers, working together as part of their union, have secured,” NALC President Fredric Rolando said.
Susie Chapstick, I hate to tell you this, the CPI was changed when Ronald Rectum was President! And as for the union and the bad contract, look to the arbitrator. At least educate yourself. Place the blame where it started! Think things will be better with a Ratpublican in office? Thing again!
your boy in the white house (demonrat) changes the CPI so you will never get a COLA again……needs to save money to fund the illegal criminal invaders he is bringing in from all over the world. vote demonKKKat….yeah right! it all comes down to another crummy 1% and this rolando says it is just great, as he gives himself a 7% raise…..time to fill out payroll deduction form to stop union dues so I can bump that 1% closer to the 7%…..every little bit helps when true inflation is around 6-8%. union president should only get what it members get….fire this punk by voting him out.
I am quite sure that the complainers out there could have done better. Only the teachers are receiving raises over .01 percent. So go ahead, and get the big wage increases that you want. Have the Postal employees that support Trump noticed that he said workers are over paid? So go and vote for someone that will cut your pay, while you complain the union didn’t win a big raise for you! And Joe Friday, have you noticed that most Postal employees aren’t pilots. If you want things to improve, forget about god guns and sports. Start thinking about jobs and working conditions1
Hey freddie..you better shoot for a major substantial wage package this time…otherwise. ..it’s time to go!!!!!
This job gets worse and worse ccas are getting 1.5 while 30 year guys get 1%
what about retirees?
1% does seem cheap now that I think about it. We’ve received no COLA’s for a couple years now, either. I think as a 31+ year veteran carrier, it sucks that once you top out you can’t get any increases until contract negotiations come up. Seniority in the city carrier craft pretty much is useless except for vacation bids, route bids and mandating to work overtime. That’s not much. We should have routes that are protected after say, 20 years, immune from route adjustments unless they need cut. I have a ruined shoulder, back, and had three different surgeries (two hernia, one shoulder) as a result of the hard work we do, and management would run us into the ground and out the door if we let them.
I don’t advocate we bargain ourselves out of work like the UAW did. It was understandable that given the enormous salaries their management paid themselves they wanted a fair piece of the pie, but they got greedy and look what happened.
However, I do think we deserve a little more somewhere, like increased sick and annual leave accrual after 25 years or a better pay increase at contract time that reflects the time and wear and tear we put in. And most galling of all, management, who is as worthless as shit anyway take the credit for our work we do because it’s the right thing to do, and pay themselves unearned and undeserved bonuses at years’ end for their fine performance.
That is embezzlement in my book. Why the NALC and other unions don’t raise pure Hell about this bonus program for a service, not a private business, is beyond me. But then there’s a lot of grumbling about high ranking NALC officers getting overpaid too, and getting weaker all the time. Of course if you’re from a small branch in a small state, your biggest office can be outvoted as far as contract resolutions are concerned by just one city that’s twice the size of your biggest branch, even if it has merged with lots of other cities.
My state, which shall remain nameless, neighbors a state in the region where two cities are well taken care of, and their votes wipe us out. Hence, guess where all the attention goes, and guess who gets lousy representation even though we pay for our officers just like the other guys do? The NALC Executive Council makes sure any resolutions they don’t like don’t get passed by spreading the bread so to speak to the mega branches in this country, like South Florida Merged, Chicago, New York the greater LA branch. Just like politics – small states don’t matter as long as we’re stuck and fucked with an electoral college.
Way to pat yourself on the back Fred…… a whopping 1% and we don’t even get most of the Cola’s because of the way the CPI is figured. But this contract was a “win” according to you and the other Union brass. Btw- what is your wage increase? I bet it’s not 1%….. the last time I saw that info it was around 6-7% with a bunch of perks that your members pay for you. But I’m sure this next contract will be much better? Right Fred??
1%. what a joke! After 28 yrs and 28 winters carrying mail, they can shove it up there ass!! Do you know what i pay in taxes in New Jersey?
Thank the stupid APWU members for selling out for only a 3.5% wage increase in 5 years among other giveaways in which the arbitrators imposed in the other union contracts.
1% wow what a union. Federal Express Pilots represented by the Airline Pilots Association just got 25% over 5 years and a $35,000 signing bonus……should have been a APA union member. Postal Workers better call Saul!
can anybody see me doing a cartwheel?
