“I am pleased to work with Representatives Whitfield and Barr on this issue on behalf of our constituents,” Senator McConnell said. “I understand the importance of keeping these mail processing facilities open so that local jobs are not jeopardized and that mail deliveries remain timely for Kentucky families and businesses. I am glad I was able to convey what I am hearing from my constituents directly to the Postmaster General, and I am hopeful he will listen to our concerns.”– Senator Mitch McConnell

“While I appreciate the Postmaster General’s willingness to discuss our issues to achieve better efficiency for the U.S. Postal Services and his attempt to take responsible actions, concerns still remain about the consolidation’s effect on postal employees in Western Kentucky. I am grateful for the Postmaster General’s time and consideration for our concerns, and his commitment to ensure that postal service standards for Kentuckians will not be diminished by the consolidation of these centers. I also appreciate his commitment to ensure that no one loses their job in Kentucky as a result of this action.” –Representative Ed Whitfield

“I appreciate Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe and Deputy Postmaster General Ronald Stroman taking the time to meet with Senator McConnell, Congressman Whitfield and me today to discuss their commitment to fulfilling all assurances made by Postmaster Donahoe during our April 16, 2013 meeting.  During our meeting, I strongly urged them to reconsider their proposal to close additional mail processing and distribution centers in Kentucky.  I appreciate their commitment and will continue to monitor this situation with great interest.”– Representative Andy Barr

  1. I work for the USPS and DO NOT trust this rat McConnell. He works to destroy the middle class. I am sure UPS and FedEX are lining his pockets. You are a liar Mitch…your records speaks for itself.
    Go Allison!

  2. Even though I don’t fully agree with what happened before Congress went on recess, I can understand that Congress didn’t want to open a debate when they had to put out a budget so that the government could function as they go out campaigning for our vote, if they all started talking about the issues that are not already agreed on then nothing would have been settled/ agreed upon and federal employees may not have gotten paid. But they have to think about the fact that come December they are going to have one month to make a decision or the American people especially postal employees are going to suffer the consequences. All they have to do is stop the prefunding (which if they just redid the figures with the current postal staffing it would be half of what it was in 2006)and the postal service wouldn’t need to go through with the consolidations. In fact the Postal Service would be showing a profit. There is no reason for the USPS to continue stating that they can’t afford to pay for future retirement health benefits 75 years from now when everyone is arguing that the Postal Service is slowly shrinking in letters and periodicals, and will mostly deal with packages in the future which means less people being hired, so less people to retire over half a century from now. Just put it on hold for 10 yrs and see what the Postal Service looks like in 2025, then if mail volume increases reinstate the rest of the prepay.

  3. Well, at least McConnell is actually doing something for a change, other than saying Baarrrack Obama constantly like a brain damaged parrot.
I wish i could make the money he does for what he does, barrack obama. thats it. He used to say Bill Clinton Bill Clinton.

Here’s a clue Mitch, if you had done anything for Ky since the 1980’s you would be talking about it. What is there to say? Nothing.

I too know the name of the president, so what? When a light comes on or you see a camera, ” Baaraack Obama” When you wife comes into the bedroom and turns on the light, does she say would you please stop calling me Barraaack Obama?

  4. When employees from impacted plants in south central and eastern Kentucky requested support from Mitch McConnell all they got was a form letter response stating it wasn’t a federal issue (reinforcing his previous comments it isn’t his job to create jobs in Kentucky). Now that he sees his gravy might be taken away, he’s making it look like he cares about the working class. The only time Kentuckians even see him is in 6-yr cycles.

  5. IS this the same Republican Senator who supports smaller government, private enterprise, and a host of other dump the unions, and government jobs…except when it occurs in his backyard??? I smell a self serving hypocrite.

  6. I total disagree, if the other states have to cut back then so does Kentucky.

Can somebody please change the paint an decor in that room different. The PMG looks like he’s about to ralph, along with the rest of us.

  7. while it is the right thing to do for the people of that part of KY, Mitch did nothing for eastern ky when their plants was consolidated.

Just an opportunist trolling for votes,if it were a matter of conviction he would have defended eastern ky’s mail service and jobs.

  8. Can’t just accomodate Kentucky. The whole plan falls apart. Are you going to keep service standard to Kentucky and not the rest of country? Typical McConnell, he could have pushed for legislation to stop this for at least a year in the CR but instead of looking out for the country he’s looking out for himself as usual.

  9. They are believing the lies and BS Donablow has been telling postal employees for years…how about calling for his removal if you want to save the Postal Service?

  10. LOL! Waste of time boys but you can say you tried even though you knew it was a waste of time before you started. Cheap way to buy votes.

  11. Translation: “McConnell, Whitfield, and Barr Meet with PMG to discuss how much of a bribe it will take for him to keep plants open in their constituency”
