On November 16, 2021, in the United States District Court for the Western District of Michigan, Kenneth Baumgarner, President of National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Branch 1147 (located in Grand Haven, Mich.), was charged and pleaded guilty to one count of embezzlement of union funds in the amount of $6,600, in violation of 29 U.S.C. 501(c). The charge and guilty plea follow an investigation by the OLMS Detroit-Milwaukee District Office and the United States Postal Service’s Office of the Inspector General.
In a plea agreement filed Tuesday, Kenneth Paul Baumgarner pleaded guilty to embezzling $6,600 from the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 1147 while he was its president and treasurer between April of 2018 and April of 2019.
Baumgarner faces a maximum of five years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000. He has repaid the $6,600, according to the plea deal.
He will also be prohibited from serving as an officer of a labor organization for 13 years.
