A spokeswoman for the U.S. Postal Inspection Service said someone came into the post office and shot Michelle Bell, the acting postmaster for the Hale post office, a couple of times. Bell was the only one in the post office at the time of the shooting.
Bell was taken to a hospital and was listed in critical condition.
Investigators said the suspected shooter had self-inflicted gunshot wounds, but was alive when emergency crews arrived. He was taken to a hospital.
The suspect’s name has not been released, but investigators said he and Bell knew each other.

Acting postmaster in stable condition after being shot at post office
HALE, MO (KCTV) -Authorities are investigating a shooting at a Carroll County post office Wednesday afternoon.
Witnesses tell KCTV5 the shooting took place about 3:30 p.m. at the post office in Hale, MO, which is located on Main Street, between Second and Third streets.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office says the victim is Michelle Bell, the acting postmaster. She was taken by medical helicopter to a hospital and last listed in stable condition.
The Missouri Highway Patrol and the United States Postal Inspection Service both confirm that they have crews on scene, but can’t release any other information at this time.
