There’s a lot going on here in Washington this week. Here’s what you need to know:
Chairman Darrell Issa is holding a hearing tomorrow to discuss draft postal reform bills. Click here to read the NALC’s response to the Issa draft, and click here for our response to Rep. Elijah Cummings’ draft.
Issa has tentatively scheduled a mark-up of his bill for July 24, depending on how tomorrow’s hearing goes.
Also tomorrow, the bill containing the mandate for six-day mail delivery will be considered by the House Appropriations Committee. As you’ll recall, the six-day language was left intact last spring when the Financial Services and General Government Appropriations Subcommittee approved its 2014 spending bill.
I’ll keep you posted.

You older carriers paid nothing, I have almost 20 yrs. in I’ve seen what the routes were compared to now and they were always short. Didn’t have msp scans, done with the routes before the hottest part of the day, no mandatory OT. Etc. etc. etc. Just need to retire if you can’t do the job anymore. There are too many carriers that milk their routes today and complain when asked anything about it. To me its the same as stealing. I come in do my job and go home to my family. As far as 600+ deliveries 4 out of my 5 in the swing are already there.
At the present time the Post Office will be lucky to have 4 day delivery. Volume will continue to shrink, you can’t work a carrier 7.5 hour on the street, day after day, with roughly 600+ deliveries….NALC leaders need to get out on the streets and carry mail to see how horrible it’s become. If the trade off is 6 day delivery or an early out…..take the early out…protect the older carriers and give them a chance to get out, we paid our dues, let the young guys fight it out.
