NJ letter carrier still employed by USPS after convicted of stealing on route

A mailman employed by the Washington Township Post Office who was found guilty last month of stealing while on his daily route must now answer to charges related to the theft of a postal service camera, according to authorities.

Brian Kramer was arrested this afternoon after township police received information from the United States Postal Service that a camera had been turned over to them by a third party who found the device in personal belongings, Washington Township Detective Sgt. John Calamari said.

The 29-year-old former township resident appeared in court twice last month on charges resulting from a joint investigation conducted by the United States Postal Service and Washington Township police.

Authorities launched the investigation following complaints about mail that was allegedly being tampered with along Kramer’s route, according to U.S.P.S. Office of Inspector General spokesperson London Mulcahy. She said the items stolen were prescription medications.

George Flood, a U.S.P.S. spokesman, said Kramer, who has worked as a letter carrier since January 2006, is still employed with the postal service and would not comment on any personnel actions taken against him “due to individual privacy concerns.”
