A Government Executive analysis of postal estimates show the consolidation plan will result in a net job loss — jobs lost at each facility minus those being relocated to existing plants — of 7,320.
The average plant will lose about 92 positions. The Queens Packaging and Distribution Center [Flushing, NY closure date 1/10/15] will shed 636 positions, the most of any facility.
The map below shows where each closure will take place. Click on the pins to see when the closure is scheduled to take place how many net job losses USPS predicts for each facility.

BOB….No management here. Just a craft worker who has already been excessed once and will be again in 2015. You gotta go with the flow. If you had a private sector union job you would definitely be layed off. Hell, half or more of the workforce wouldnt be working because they are so damn lazy. Bob, I bet you are on limited and light duty frequently right along with John Wayne. I agree Mgmnt sucks but so do the employees!
It’s not about losing jobs, it’s about losing jobs to another state, forcing people to uproot their lives and move, and the fact that the public will have to wait longer to have their mail delivered, will take 1 – 2 days even within the same city. Pooooor customer service.
WOW! You can see who is in management! Hey dummy, without the workers you don’t have a job! And you could care less about CUSTOMER SERVICE as you fail to staff the windows. Cutting jobs to work the window is not customer service. 15 minute wait time in lines? Customer Service? Or is it an a attempt to push CUSTOMERS to the internet? Or PMG’s new job at Amazon? Look to see where former PMG’s go to work! In the mailing industry! Create havoc that will improve the company that they will work for! Go read Dummy!
John Wayne, Pilgrim….Ive already been excessed in 2012 and will be excessed again in 2015. You must be a union goon that doesnt read your own contract. I just go with the flow. Stop making yourself look stupid with ignorant comments without facts. So I imagine I hurt your feelings because you must be one of the employees that hides when the rest of us work? Don’t worry. The USPS will find you a job too. Just not the cushy job you have now but it will be a job.
John Wayne must be a know it all!
I read the article by Rick. I didn’t see anything I don’t already know.
Please read the article submitted by Rick. The point is Rick knows and understands the postal mis-system and clearly states the truth. This is being done at an alarming pace all over this country. If the public only knew they have more power than they believe.Nobody on this Earth can and will deliver the same amount of mail, to the same locations as the present system. Its management that create the real problem as stated by Rick!
John Wayne. I’ve already been excessed once in 2012 and will be once again in July 2015. Obviously you are a union goon that believes the hype. Read the contract yourself. Educate yourself. Do yourself a favor and don’t reply to something you haven’t done your homework on! Back up your statement, Pilgrim!
I hope Big R gets excessed, because he doesn’t have a clue what he’s talking about.
I would of voted for them to tear down the White House instead of the Golden Bear in Huntington Beach Calif.
Shut ’em down…Turn’em into live band clubs.
More like Management doesn’t care about the customers…It’s all about numbers on a report.
Cut what? They still making PTF promote to regular, 204Bs promote to regular supervisors( if you have good connection )
Im sure not one pencil pusher will lose their job. Probably get promotions. Give a VER and let those people impacted go wherever they want
Jeff, if you click on “Click here to see map- GovExec.com” you will see the map again and then click on the pins to see when the closure is scheduled to take place how many net job losses USPS predicts for each facility.
Big R…
Well said and SPOT-ON! The Plant employees could care less about scanning scores, the customer…etc! The majority of them walk the floor with nothing to do and mgmt. does nothing to them. But the hammer comes down on the carrier who misses an MSP scan, forgets to scan a priority or isn’t back within DOIS projections!!
Positions are eliminated. That is by definition a job loss.
I am certainly not against doing the right thing for the business, but at a time where other “competitive” carriers are expanding their sortation and distribution, why is po reducing their capacity and capability, and ultimately putting service standards at risk or disregarding their value entirely?
The Postal Service is a viable and self sustaining entity. Take away the pre-funding mandate and the USPS would be turning a profit in it’s present state. Not bad for a non-profit government service. Do changes need to be made to ensure it’s viability into the future, sure they do. Closing facilities and small offices and lessening delivery standard, thereby giving our customer, the American public, poor service, is NOT the solution. I think it the PMG who doesn’t care about our customers.
The USPS should look at maximizing the efficiency of their current operations. Stop the double and triple handling of mail. Stop providing big mailers with “work sharing” discounts that we could do for cheaper in house and have that mindset work its way to the supervisor on the workroom floor (you know the one who has you process pre-sorted, walk sequenced mail on a 3-digit program to get “good numbers” thus forcing us to triple handle the already discounted mail).
After that is done, then we can maybe look at where consolidating facilities might help.
We should also be concerned about the impact on service these cuts will bring. Why does postal management hate postal workers so much?
You can be sure no management positions will be cut and in fact they are making supervisor promotions again.
Clicking on the pins only opens the same map in a different window and does not show anything else.
Again, no one will lose their job as the PO eliminates a small % of the number it should be eliminating. So many level 15 and lower offices should simply go ‘POOF’.
Notice only 1 facility impacted in the home state of Obie….
I wish people would stop using “jobs lost” “jobs cut” etc…. Please read Art. 6 in your contract. USPS did not lay off anyone during the last round of 141 facilities. Some retired, some quit but most went off to new positions. The unions use scare tactics to extend the inevitable. Just because some Senators to include Harry Reid signs proposal to halt closures for a year? So really what does that do? Half of our shift some employees just disappear due to lack of work. The employees dont care about the customer. 5 day delivery, close the rest of the 82 plants without delay so we can find a new home. Stop beating the dead horse and just let it die!
