Pennsylvania Letter Carrier flown to hospital after getting hit by car

Butler, PA – U.S. postal carrier was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital this afternoon after she was struck by a car along West New Castle Street.

Fire Chief Nick Ban said the 51-year-old woman, whose name was not available, was crossing New Castle Street near its intersection with Sixth Avenue when she was struck by a silver car about 12:15 p.m.

Ban said the woman suffered moderate injuries to her shoulder, arm and legs. She was transported to Butler Memorial Hospital before being flown by Stat MedEvac, reportedly to UPMC Presbyterian hospital.

“I heard a thump, but thought it was just a car accident,” she said. “When I looked outside I saw the woman laying on the ground.”

Haskin said the woman was in obvious pain on the ground. She added the male driver of the car was apologizing to her.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
