Philadelphia Postal Workers Union President Blames Hiring Freeze, No Allotted Overtime For USPS Delivery Delays

1/9/2021 PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — It’s been two weeks since Christmas and yet some are still waiting on Santa to deliver their packages. The holidays are over, but some are still waiting for packages from the USPS. It’s getting to the point where they’re starting to lose their patience.

The post office is turning packages left and right, yet the load doesn’t seem to get any lighter.

“Mail backed up to the ceilings,” Nick Casselli, the local American Postal Workers Union president, said.

Casselli says postal workers are doing the best they can, but with a hiring freeze and no allotted overtime, packages are simply backed up.

“I looked into one of the containers, two-day priority mail, and the dates were Dec. 1, Dec. 5, Dec. 10,” Casselli said.

That’s a huge complaint by many, paying for a service that doesn’t deliver.

Eyewitness News morning anchor Jim Donovan received his priority one-day delivery 20 days later, and there are similar stories across the region.

“Mine was shipped mid-November and it said it was actually delivered Dec. 3,” Anand Patel said. “I reached out to USPS and I filed a complaint and I got no word back until I just found it on my doorstep actually yesterday morning.”

One package from Nordstrom Rack has been en route since Dec. 3. The normal six to nine business days have long passed.

“It’s sad just because around the holiday time, people are expecting packages,” Patel said.

  1. sorry dud, but your not where she is. I was talking to one of my former worker who
has 10 in her field at the office. Their is only 2 to do the normal work of 10. You
don’t understand USPS, and the current illness atmosphere. chill out.

  2. the P.M. and his pal Das Fat Fuhrer are to blame. Our “great” leader wanted to slow mail delivery and services to drop, and they did. The P.M. shut down sorting machines just before the election. He knew what would happen. I can’t get my gas bill, magazines from December haven’t been delivered. Many other normal mail hasn’t shown up. I tired of waiting for mail that should have arrived days ago. Now I read of a hiring freeze. what idiots manage the Postal Service.

  3. What’s sad is that the members of these postal unions decided to use their CO-VID leave before it expired on 12/31/20. The union officers made sure to tell their members it was a use it or lose situation. So what happened next? Postal workers in the processing plants all across the country put in for the leave, resulting in these plant being understaffed for the busiest time of year. Forty percent of the workers stayed home and got paid for doing nothing. The USPS is still trying to catch up. Pathetic.

    • Sheryl, you are being less than honest, quit pushing lies from the impeached moron in the White House,it makes you look like a fool.
