Recent events on Capitol Hill are signs the Postal Service along with Congress and the Obama Administration are headed down a promising path, says PMG Pat Donahoe.
In his latest message to employees, Donahoe reports the White House and key decision makers in the House appear to share support for major reforms. He is hopeful that agreement in such proposals as reducing mail delivery from six to five days each week and reimbursing USPS for retirement payments will help promote congressional consensus on a bill.
Even though differences remain on key issues, such as prepayments to the retiree health trust fund, Donahoe is optimistic about the future of reform. “All in all,” he says, there are a lot of positives.”
The PMG also covers other topics in his report, including expanded access, the organization’s Post Plan and the need for employees to maintain good customer service.
“Expanded access gives customers access to our products and services,” said Donahoe. “That’s what we’re here for, to serve our customers and grow the business volume in the system.”
The PMG says load leveling — smoothing out the carriers’ workload to make their jobs easier — also will help grow the business and improve customer service.
Donahoe emphasizes the importance of scanning and delivering packages correctly. “We need to handle packages just like they’re coming to us personally,” said Donahoe. “That’s what customers expect.”
Finally, Donahoe thanks employees for their excellent work and encourages them to maintain the pace. “Let’s continue to do a great job for our customers,” he says.
Blame management and god for bid they get a raise….But all those pathetic craft employees are entitled to one….Youe people are amazing, always having blame to go around…Wake up..
Rumor has him leaving early the PO next year….that’s y he is trying to destroy the PO.Has a job lined up with Fedex.
Also let’s talk about ROUTE TESTING. Mgmt is now using displaced supervisors on these TEAMS OF ROUTE TESTERS. You don’t need this anymore. These supervisors are making between $60&$70k a year. They come in teams of sometimes 8-10 TESTERS. God only knows what they supervised. They don’t know a thing about the mail. Just walk around with long faces, making everyone sick. And when the revamp a route it’s the worst thing ever i saw. Instead of doing buildings close together like we had in the past, now you have to walk around, one building here, another 4 blocks over their, then double back to somewhere else. It’s worse than a Chinese Fire Drill. A whore house is run better.Imagine how many of these disgruntled ex-supervisors there are on these TEAMS all over the country. Put them back to craft and make them work for a living. The way adjustments on routes should be done, in my opinion is the manager,the shop steward,supervisor, and carrier all get together, come to an agreement with their knowledge combined and come up with a solution. And then with every bodies input the route gets readjusted. Common sense, and job requirements will win out!
They ruined a perfectly good job. As a City Delivery Carrier, we used to have two deliveries per day. Business delivery only. By 9:00 am everyday our Business customers had their mail and 2nd class and daily papers such as The Wall Street Journal, The American Banker and a whole host of others. When these geniuses who run the show changed everything in 1992, went to one trip, we lost all the paper deliveries in the whole country. Think of it, 100s of millions of papers everyday, in every city, everywhere. Now we are delivering mail on Monday’s at 4:00 in the afternoon. Some offices are closing when we get their. How embarrassing and sick this is. It all went to private delivery services and the loss of that revenue can never be made up.Yet these morons have the balls enough to actually collect BONUSES. This should be considered theft of services. In any job you get a BONUS when your company makes money, not when they lose money because of their hair-brained schemes. Thank God i can retire this year, which i intend on doing without fail. I used to love coming to work each day. Now it makes me sick to see what has happened to a great job. Keep collecting bonuses you phony scumbags and choke on it!!!
Finally, Donahoe thanks employees for their excellent work….Oh, and by the way, since you’ve done such a good job…we’re going to mess with your health insurance, give your jobs away to Staples and if WE decide to close your processing plant you no longer have a job, but really you did a great job!!
Dear Donuthole;
Please answer the following questions. Without your usual lying please:
– if the USPS is in such dire financial straits, why are you re-instating mgmt. bonuses ? (not that they ever went away of course; we’re not that naive)
– when will your managers be held accountable for the millions wasted in grievance payments, all of which are 100% avoidable, by simply following the contract, which you yourself signed.
Until these two items, for starters, are addressed, spare us your “sky is falling” propaganda.
Do you trust him?
